It's called an angle grinder because the cutting head is turned 90 degrees from how a normal grinder's is set. A normal grinder has it's wheel axle pointing directly out from the tool (like a power drill). It's working surfaces are often the sides of spinning wheel; this grinder's used to smooth surfaces, polish edges, that sort of thing. An angle grinder has the axle turned 90* to the side, so now the edge of the wheel is the working surface, allowing you to use it as a cutting tool.
@clovermite3 ай бұрын
Great explanation! If I remember correctly, in addition to cutting, it's also often used to sharpen objects by literally angling the grinder so it creates a bevel in the object based on how aggresively you tilt that working edge of the grinder.

What I've found that seems to work pretty well in my first game, with the coffin start is: if a derelict is in decent shape and has a battery, patch up any holes, fix the battery, and let the ship pressurize with the leftover tanks. Then you can remove and repair stuff at your leisure without an EVA. Also in my experience you have to stop right as you step into the airlock and let the door clip through your character before moving forward. Definately didn't learn that the hard way (since the coffin doesn't have an O2 bottle).

The airlock does not do airlock things without intervention. If you want to minimize gas loss when cycling the airlock, install a Turbo Pump and canister, then you can manually cycle the airlock. In addition to that, you need a N2 canister and sensor to get your main cabin up to proper pressure.
@joelmitchell75973 ай бұрын
I think your confusion about air pressure can be helped by knowing that air is mostly nitrogen. If you want earth like atmospheric pressure, you need a lot of n2. Also, undiluted o2 is very flammable.

Even though you *can* dock at 100m/s, you really need to try and match velocity as much as possible. The game does add velocity from your ship's motion to the derelict...and you can end up drifting very far from K-Leg in long-term salvage operations. Becomes less of an issue with a reactor and torch drive.

As for tools, you need a full EVA suit (you can mix and match minor variations of suits), a light tool (Portable light works great, a Data Tool (Currently the PDA is the only Portable Data Tool I have seen), a Pry tool (only pry bar fills this purpose), Torque tool(screwdriver or Green Drill), Cut tool(Angle Grinder or Laser Welder) and Weld tool (Red StirWelder, or Laser Welder), and Soldering tool (Green Soldering Iron, or Laser Welder). The Laser Welder Acts as Both a Cut tool and a Weld tool, A Soldering tool, and is an incredible Weapon in a fight. It can blast right through an EVA suit and a body part in one hit. You may want to keep a screw driver and a Soldering iron someplace in your ship for repairing the Welder should it ever need it. I prefer the Laser Welder over a gun (the Laser welder is still a touch range weapon, however, but most fights are melee). So once you get The Laser Welder you will only ever need the Green Battery Charger, The Laser Welder Charger, and the Suit Battery Charger. You won't need the Red Charger at all. You can run around with a PryBar, PDA, Green Drill, and Laser Welder. No need to carry a gun or Ammo with you, the Crowbar works as a great melee weapon, but the Laser Welder is usually a one shot as it will Destroy their suit and probably grievously cut the limb or torso inside it as well. The Laser Welder has the best battery life of any tool other than the Portable Light which uses disposable batteries.

you can steal a cabin worth of air from the station by right clicking your doors and choosing "Open"... then open the Air lock doors as well while at OKLEG. your cabin will equalize with the station. This will give you a free 80 KPA of N2. Then you can make a full run with just an O2 sensor and O2 pump station. Later you will want a N2 sensor and an N2 pump station to re-fill your ship. Also Turn off the sensors for your gas pumps before breaching your hull during ship expansions. This will prevent your pumps form trying to fill space with your precious breathing gasses.

Also something people might not think about as much: files found on PDAs, nav consoles, and data cards. There are some files that sell for thousands depending on if it's the station or the black market buying it and they take up no space. I've found crypto wallets, corporate espionage, interrogations, etc.

I wonder if this game is simulating real life and demonstrating how us humans do not NEED nitrogen / 1 atmo of pressure to survive, so we don't HAVE to put it on our space ships. This is a cost saving method as it cuts down on weight, but it does come at the cost of massively increased flammability and lower overall cabin pressure, requiring normalization periods when docking with fully pressurized ships so as to avoid getting the bends. I could be wrong about all of this, but it's really cool if that is what the game is doing.
@dftp3 ай бұрын
It does in fact simulate this somewhat. You can also run on higher oxygen concentration and it does simulate higher flammability with higher oxygen levels, or rather it will because fire hasn't been implemented yet in the game but they plan to at the latest for release.

Thankfully, the heaters kicked in and quickly resolved the issue.

the pressure values shown are partial pressure values for the different constituents of the gas. The sum of the partial pressures is the total pressure. On Earth, total pressure is approx. 100 kPa at sea level, with apprx. 80:20 ratio of N (blue) to O2(green). Relevant for breathing is only the partial pressure of oxygen which would be 20 kPa at sea level and approx. 10 kPa in 5000 m above sea level. Going below might risk health problems. Your ships atmosphere seems very oxygen rich, ~50% oxygen which is considered a fire hazard. I dont have the game so I dont know anything for sure, but this way it makes the most sense to me. XOXO edit: your dude should be really agitated by the high oxygen level at 30 kPa and work 50% harder. No, but there is something off with your cabin air I presume.

Originally an angle grinder had it's grinding surface on it's face so you can abrade rough surfaces by holding the grinder at an angle with the work piece. Compared to a bench grinder where the abrasive surface is on the edge of the wheel. Then they changed the abrasive disks with cutting discs that has it's abrasive surface also on it's thin edge to cut through tough material. However do not use an angle grinder with a cutting disk as you would with an abrasive disc. The cutting discs cannot hold their own against the constant changing lateral load and have a tendency to shatter whilst still going at a lot of RPMs. I've first hand seen multiple incidents of this happening.
