I’d recommend a 5th wheel conversion on the trailer or a new trailer with a 5th wheel. That would allow for less play in the trailer and it has a lot safer of a locking mechanism than a gooseneck. B&W companion is a great hitch that mounts up to your gooseneck and is a ton safer than gooseneck
@tacotodd04202 жыл бұрын
That's right buddy exactly what I was thinking why would you have all that weight on a gooseneck. Yes I see it on my travels in my state all the time. Humans hauling equipment etc. On gooseneck trailers. I personally would not trust one with the amount of responsibility you have when hauling.

As a trucker of 42 yrs, the fact that the load came off the trailer tells me the strapping was not done properly. Besides that, the ball was not in the bed of the truck. (1:24min) Either over stressed or not properly installed. But a fifth-wheel hitch would have been a better choice.

As a flatbed truck driver. On off ramps like that or sharp curves especially with a trailer with the load being high center of gravity is probably the number one cause of most roll overs. Glad all people are ok. Machines can be fixed or replaced. That's what insurance is for.
@frankrotello89382 жыл бұрын
Yup, I once hitched my tag-along car carrier to the ball, but it wasn't actually full seated on the ball. The ball actually hung up the lock so when I thru the latch it went right in place. I had no idea that my trainer hitch was sitting on the bottom of the lock and not in the ball socket. Thankfully I wasn't going very far and the tongue weight held it in place. But when I got home and went to unload, all hell broke loose. As soon as the car was far enough back the tongue shot up and tore a gash in my tail gate. needless to say I needed a few friend and a change of under ware to get out of this mess.

I was a truck driver for a while. Company rule was 5 mph under the posted limit on the curve. Sometimes I did 10 mph under. Their trailer isn't heavy enough, so the CoG is too high. I bet they were doing exactly the posted limit on the curve or just over because they were so comfortable towing that trailer, but it's not capable.
@jonnie2bad2 жыл бұрын

@francikaa12 жыл бұрын
Yes. All of the load on the first half of the trailer was way too high, plus all the cars are lifted,made it even worse. This trailer has a design flaw. In old England we have double decker trailers+trucks up to 97003lb. You have to have +20% or more weight all the time on the top deck. Also the trailer here does not connected properly to the pulling vehicle by that knob, giving it less stability against tipping during cornering. So the trailer went over, without getting any the stabilily from the pulling vehicle.

All frames survived the impact. That means, the cages are strong enough to protect humans inside - that's a good reassurance. I really didn't expect the trailer to look like that - when the crane put it on wheels, I was really shocked. I'd honestly be afraid to drive something like this, it's too tall!

Awe man! Heart is sinking for you guys, so glad that Trailer didn’t flip the truck into oncoming traffic with you all in it. Those 18 wheelers would have made things so much worse! You guys have one hell of a story and can live to talk about it! God bless you all!

Side by sides can be damaged and repaired. Lives can't. If there's any bright side that's the one. Glad everything came out alright and you got to race at Indy. That was fun for all. Hell of a show. Hope you make it to Bristol.

This kills me to see brothers. Everything has already been said in the comments but be thankful it wasn’t worse because it always can be. If anyone can rebuild it’s you guys!

Glad everyone is ok. This is nothing more than a bump in the road. In time it will just be another story to tell. This won't change your life. When somebody gets hurt or worse, that's when it's life changing. I know this losing my sister in a crash in 2005. It'll only get better from here. Good luck.

Storm cloud: tipped the trailer crashed the load. Silver lining: plenty of content for the channel. Glad to see you guys able to take the punches and laugh through it looking forward to seeing you get these rigs back together and rippin'!

Plenty of content for the insurance to blame the driver for not checking the load and make sure the gooseneck ball was locked in place

I really hope insurance will help you guys with the financial aspect of it, but the hours in the shop and the customizable parts, man it just really sucks. I'm always a glass-half-full guy, sometimes overly so during really nasty situations to try to soften the blow, I'm just glad you're all safe and unharmed. If it didn't break or come unhooked, I'm really glad the truck didn't get slapped on its side too. We could be making funeral arrangements instead of just cancelling SXS events.
