Well said, you have great examples for the divers that don't dive a lot of wrecks.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I it’s very important to this that iconic divers like you have to admit that there is no ‚black and white‘. I wish of you and your follower safe and fun dives.

Excellent video Achim, agree with your premise that guidelines are a decision in wrecks vs. caves where they are mandatory. There are many wrecks/routes where they will be a hazard or where you may wish to exit at a point other than your entry. Research your wreck, understand its layout, plan your route, determine your navigation methods... be it a line, strobes, compass bearing/depth, and/or lines of the wreck itself or all of the above. On a new wreck or route, progressively penetrate and lay line and/or strobes where you need it... especially in new spaces... for example, work up a route over several dives laying line in the new areas or parts where navigation out may be challenging. Above all know your limits and push your comfort zone forward carefully. Thanks, keep up the good work :)!

Thank you so much for all the information you share. You do great videos. I have a question: I am NOT overhead/cave certified/trained, if I went into a wreck/cove someone like yourself would that be safe? Anyone who reads this is welcome to talk about the subject as well. Thanks for all you do and contribute to the diving world. Cheers and hopefully see you in FL some day.

What do you think of filming the progressive penetration.. so you can study potential danger areas on dry land?

Thanks for your videos, always enjoy them and your point are well taken but I would argue with some specifics. The Duane for instance is not benign as you believe. An example is all the loose cables and sharp metal that present hazards. You can see some on my video at around the 6 minute mark ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6W4ZWyDgs-VaKc ). You might enjoy the whole video since you have fond memories of the Duane. One other huge point is fishing lines and hooks which blanket this and many wrecks. They are hard to spot and unforgiving. I live in Key Largo and have dove that wreck over 100 times. Thanks again for your channel.

Hi Steve - always happy to meet old neighbors :-) I used to live and work on Key Tavenier 90-97 and dove the wreck several times per week. You video makes me realize how much it changed and how urgently I need to come back to visit the old lady again. Thanks and take care.

There is a popular video of a great white while diving the Duane that shows some ediot divers penetrating it with no line and no lights.

and that is why - the complexity of wreck diving - I dont get why you have to do a cavern course for cave diving even if you already are a certified wreck diver.

Hi. There are still some substantial differences and things to appreciate for each. Although some skills are shared, others are more specific to the environment (in knowledge, specific skills, line work and navigation, and general appreciation). A fulfilling course is one that really opens a student's eyes to these nuisances given the environment.

Wrecks generally have more exit points and caves are generally longer swims but I have to agree, they should do a course about diving in overhead environments. I guess two courses equate to more money than one.
