On a single breath he was able to clear his mask like 512 times! Great example of showing it doesn't take as much to clear as some may think! Great video sir!

Nice video Achim. That exercise definitely trains underwater skills. You asked how divers practice skills underwater? I usually practice clipping things such as reels out of bungees from my drysuit pockets during deco or a safety stops after a dive. Switching to a back up light every now and then is also a nice exercise. Reaching behind to check that valves are open is a nice way to mentally prepare to a situation that I must close a valve.

since I am mostly teaching beginners, I could see that the biggest problem with mask and regulator is when they are focusing on the exersice it self. What I am doing is dancing a full set of macarena or a best out of 5 rock papper secisor with a single breath/without regulator in the mouth, therefore the people are more relaxed, because they are focusing not on holding the breat, they are actually doing something...or giving them a rope without knots and they need to do knots or form smothing else or draw something without the mask...for me and my students this works perfectly

The last one was cool. I like playing with my tank instead, single tank. If you can manage closing the tank, doing some exercises, reopen, fear won't be gone, but will prevent you going beyond your limits. When i have doubts, i split the planned exercises and when confident that you can do it safely you keep adding. "Fear" will be there, but you'll be calm, you can do it and if something goes wrong you'll always have a backup planned.

Best for me was finding a “safe spot” pool or shallow area, where I know I can get to air. Then practice practice practice. Then I go a bit deeper if I feel uncomfortable I go back. It took time then afterwards I got better. It took me months but afterwards I felt better and didn’t have the fear. I still do the exercises when I do my pool practice when I don’t get to dive open water. It’s nothing wrong with being uncomfortable dive and practice enough to be comfortable it takes time and especially when you haven’t been in the water for a while

Will give it a go tomorrow. I always struggle with mask change when diving my kiss. When OC it seams easier to control buoyancy whereas on ccr I'm always worried that I'll shoot up without the mask. Also diving 8mm hood that normally sits on top of the mask makes it more difficult to replace. I guess it is one of those exercises not many people like doing...

Trim the edge of your hood down so that the edge of it lines up with your mask skirt rather than having it saw over.

Great video! Freediving definitely helps in being comfortable in the water (although useless for Scuba). Unrelated question, but for the long hose, where do you tuck it so that it doesn't slip away when in front of you?
@Blubpaule
@Blubpaule 4 жыл бұрын
either you have a batterytank/knife/plasticrod on your right hip and tuck it under. Beneath the strap works too but your harness should fit you snuggly.

That's a great training video...unfortunately for me I don't have the lung capacity for all that. Guess I should work on that!
@EdwardOmagbemi
@EdwardOmagbemi 3 жыл бұрын
You don't need lung capacity. You've got oxygen for about 4 minutes. Achim's oxygen levels most probably didn't change during the exercise. The urge to breathe is actually the urge to breath out because of CO2 building up. You can train to control this urge in freediving. Or you simply download an app like STAmina and start doing "dry" training. You progress quite quickly and it helps my comfort levels underwater to know how long I can breathold. I'll definitely try this exercise the next time in the water.

Hi, can you make a video on how to setup a pony bottle rigged to the backplate when using a single tank? I don't like many of the options available for pony bottle setup so I came up with my own. I use an OMS backplate and connect my bottle upside down using the mounting holes and quick links to attach the bottle. It works ok but of course i have to compensate for the extra weight to one side. Suggestions appreciated.
@Blubpaule
@Blubpaule 4 жыл бұрын
Attach it to your plate like an Argon Bottle? Or use a Stage. At least it's large enough to savely bring you to the surface.

Achim. I would like to know your opinion about 1 point: I dive for recreational dive and I don't have the left hand. Until today, I have o stander configuration BCD. I'm thinking to change the power Power Inflator from left side to the right side (just to make it easy). do you think the change may give some problem or safety issue that I should think about it?

Another thing to make you feel comfortable under water, is to do everytime before start diving is to exercise the nose-water reflections. I'll do it everytime again

@@etiennedeklerk the moment you're in the water and preparing for the dive ,you put the reg in your mouth and leave the mask of. Then stick your head under water and start breathing trough the reg. But you inhale trough the reg and exhale through your nose. At that moment you will experience that your breathing will relax and so is your mind
