Great review. I use the ernst rack (one regular,and one reverse) in the same drawer and they work great for me. Oh, and I just yesterday purchased 16mm and 18mm combination wrenches to complete my vintage SK Wayne metric set..

A lot of sets exclude the 16 and 18 to get you to upgrade to a more expensive set. YES , there should be a 16 and 18 label.

Have you considered putting magnets under the drawer liner or even the underside of drawer to create some resistance for the wrenches to keep them from rattling around? They make the very weak magnet stuff on a roll for like refrigerator strength. Could just cut to fit.

Hello TexaCajin DIY Thank you for a Great Video 👍 I just found your channel and subscribed. You raise a good point about the Toolbox Widgets. But that can apply to all of organizing options. One thing I would suggest. Is that you don't trash the left over organizers. You may find useful to keep them for future use. About the Toolbox Widgets tool ID tags, I found aluminum tape and a marker work's good. I am a Aircraft Mechanic so my tools have to shadow, etched and inventory. For tool accountability. Have you done a update video?? What have you learned from the experience? What would you do differently now? Again thank you

I'm actually looking into getting a tool grid, thoughts and that setup versus the products in this video?
@texacajundiy
@texacajundiy 3 жыл бұрын
So, the tool grid base is 3/8 thick. then, all the holders have a stand-off as well. Its a good system, IF you have about 9/19 to 3/4" of sacrificial vertical space. The tool grid was the first product I looked at. Unfortunately, I didn't have that vertical space. I think the tool grid works best with premium boxes as they have the depth: So the bigger boxes from stricklytoolboxes.com, Snappy master series and up, Matco 6s and up, Mac macsimizer's. If you box is something like that, odds are the grid will be good. My china HF box and the Milwaukee box just aren't set up with deep enough drawers.

Not seeing it mentioned in the comments, but do not use hot glue on rare earth magnets. The heat will cause them to lose their magnetism.

I have the tool box widgets for wrenches. The magnets came apart from the bottom. Contacted the company for warranty . I was denied they need proof of purchase. I bought the first generation widgets, I don’t know where the receipt is now. I’m disappointed with the company, but I would have bought more if I liked the customer service. They worked great until the magnets came apart from the holders.

What do you think of the Ernst wrench rails that are very similar to those oem rails
@texacajundiy
@texacajundiy 3 жыл бұрын
I looked at those. The Ernst rails were too tall for this particular drawer. The erst rails set the small wrenches close and the large wrenches further apart. They are progressive, if you will. IMO, Erst trays set the wrenches perfectly with regard to space saving and utility. I imagine the rails would do the same. If I had the drawer hight, I'd use em.

TexaCajun DIY I ordered 2 sets of those oem rails last night. For the price I can’t go wrong. after I get them I’ll evaluate and see if Ernst rails will make sense for some other wrenches

@@texacajundiy so what is the height of the drawer that wasn't high enough for the Ernst? How tall do you think the drawer would need to be for the Ernst?
@texacajundiy
@texacajundiy 3 жыл бұрын
@@jeffmitchell72 The Ernst trays add about 3/4 inches total to the socket. So whatever your socket length plus the 3/4". Now what's critical to remember is that the drawer 'depth' isn't necessarily what matters. Rather its the distance between the inside of the drawer and the drawer above. This varies widely by box model and manufacturer. Generally manufacturers report drawer depth and not maximum available storage height. Bottom line: you gotta measure. Give yourself about 1/8" wiggle room.

I have the toolbox widgets for my wrenches (no labels). Seriously guys, I don’t need labels to tell me what size my wrenches are. I can reach in and grab my sae or metric I am reaching for without needing a label...
@texacajundiy
@texacajundiy 3 жыл бұрын
on the slanted holders I agree, but with the wrenches straight up and down, I prefer them labeled.

IMHO I tried the toolbox widget and didn't like them I sent them back because of their labeling system is the pits. When you put your wrenches in you can't see the different sizes and they don't offer labels to correspond to the different wrench sizes. I was going to make my own labels and it's pretty hard to do with a labeling machine, to cut and fit them, they didn't look right.

Thank you for this comment. This, along with what Cajun said in the video about labels, has been very helpful in steering me away from ToolBox Widget. The prices they charge are outrageous, but I was drawn to them anyway for the labels. Charging what ToolBox Widget does, you gotta be perfect, and they just aren't

@@jeffmitchell72 I went with the Tool Grid system, IMHO I am glad I did. They are rather expensive, but it is a one time expense. I initially was only going to do the wrenches, but after they were all done, I decided to do the sockets. I eliminated all of my wrench organizers, all of the socket trays and metal boxes I had just for the universals. I highly recommend this system and their labeling system is perfect.
