Nice locos . I think there is now a red 8F in preservation , although I maybe getting confused with a BR red Jubilee

Hi, There is, 48624 although I'm not sure if it has been repainted back into black livery. And 45699 'Galatea' was returned to steam after a very long and protracted overhaul in 2013 turned out in a BR version of maroon livery. However, it now sports lined out green livery and has masqueraded as 'Alberta' and 'Sierra Leone'. Confused, you wil be! I recall seeing 45699 at Carnforth n the early 1980s. It was no more than a rotting hulk, no tender, and centre driving wheel severed in half.

Avoid for the time being, the guy is having a meltdown, it's a one man show although the products are very good. Detail components, (metal buffer heads/vacuum pipes/ screw couplings etc: www.wizardmodels.ltd/ The Wrenn 8F is a good model to start on. I've picked up some "well used" very tatty ones for reasonable price. As long as the chassis bright work is cleanable it doesn't matter what state the body and tender shell is in, it can be stripped to the bare metal using caustic soda, sprayed with grey primer and finished with either satin or matt black, 2-3 quick/thin coats. Best thing about the 8F apart from the fact it's the best model H.D. ever made is that there's no lining to worry about . Fox make full sets of lining for locos, superb, accurate fit/size. Problem is they expand when placed in water...didn't work for me. Finish off your 8F with 'Buffer Beam' red from 'Rail Match' paints, oil based rather than acrylic. Your 8F will then look like its just out of Crewe Works! Hope this helps. Graeme

Very nice modeling work on those locos!! I have 2 Wrenn locos in the box that have never been run, but as soon as I get a layout sorted out that will change. I've noticed some Triang/Wrenn locos that had plastic or possibly blacked metal wheels on the lead bogey? Is this a Triang Era adaptation? Thanks 👍

Hi, Many thanks for your comments and observations. The plastic pony truck wheels and tender wheels were a carry over from the Hornby-Dublo originals. Tri-ang/Rovex acquired H/D after it went into receivership and shortly after Wrenn as well. Wrenn was tasked with the disposal of existing H/D stock but it also continued to produce the locomotives. When the Tri-ang/Rovex empire found itself in trouble, circa early '70s, the three Wrenn brothers jumped ship with the H/D tools and made some very minor changes, the most significant being bright metal coated trailing wheels and an expansion of liveries. Other changes were very limited runs of locos with larger driving wheels and cetre driving wheels with flanges and compensation.

Hi Martin, Thank you for your enquiry. The loco shed plates are from a Fox transfer sheet. Make sure you obtain the one you require ie shed location and not the ones with the letters 'SC' underneath either. The 8Fs did not have 'Self Cleaning' smoke boxes. The numbers and LMS insignia are from Modelmaster Decals. The etched builders plates and tender plates are from Silvertay models on Ebay. If you are referring to the Wrenn 8F or Hornby-Dublo 8F for that matter, it should have a large polished metal hook secured into buffer-beam? If not, look for Wrenn Spares G & R Wrenn on Ebay. Vacuum pipes are while metal, Alan Gibson, Markits, 51L (?), Comet, plastic ones from Hornby spares, Bachmann spares or go to Peters' Spares own website or Peters Spares on Ebay as he has all of these different makes under one roof. Hi there, Thank you for your interest but I have to disappoint you. There is no trackplan as all I had was an idea in my head that was based on busy through stations on British Railways circa 1957-1965 such as Preston, Rugby, Stafford. I did toy with the idea of using the plan of the throat (approach and exit) at Kings Cross Station London but space did not permit. Basically, I made it up based on memories and that centred on the final phase of steam operation on B.R. Many thanks Graeme
