I miss Vader. Very honest, open & truthful guy. Most of us men would never admit we got messed up a bit, especially not by someone shorter & lighter than us. So for him to confirm parts of Ric's story bcz it did actually happen...my hats off to you, Van. R.I.P Vader

You know you are a true wrestling fan if you sat here and listened to 90 minutes of Flair stories. I found this quite enjoyable and interesting, as there is rarely a medium no opinion answer. In Wrestling, you get two ends of extremes. Either Flair is Great and appreciated or he's a Horses Ass and a backstabber. Personally, if I met him in my wild days while he was a horseman, I would have bought him a few rounds. In my older years, he just gets respect for what he did for the business.

How was Richard at the things that ACTUALLY matter, such as being a father and being a husband? And just listen to him still to this day. He talks like all that childish crap is so cool. He has refused to grow up and be a man and it's seriously the most pathetic thing, listening to him talk these days. I can't stand when people who interview him act like it's so cool that he's in his 70s, has always been a very poor and very absent father, has always been a womanizing piece of trash, and has never been able to maintain any friends throughout his life. He's still a drunk too and he acts like that's cool too. I'd love to know where all the mature adults in this world went. When I was growing up the adults were mostly mature and they had morals. They didn't just accept garbage, immature, and immoral behavior out of other adults. People would actually speak up right away.

Thank you so much for sharing these with us. Strange as it may sound, I'm not so much interested in stories about Ric Flair as much as I just like seeing some of the guys from what was one of my favorite times in wrestling. I have to give major, major props to these guys because I realize NOW just how talented they were in their business: Tully Blanchard and Larry Zbysko were two guys that I hated with a passion and fantasized about getting in the ring and beating their faces in...and seeing them now as "regular working guys", I have to sheepishly laugh at myself and give props to how well they portrayed their in-ring personas. Seeing so many of these guys from the heyday of NWA - those sweet two-hour Saturday TV studio jobber segments! - as "real people" is something that is absolutely awesome to me; I've sat here and laughed and stared at so many of them. Thank you again for sharing these interviews with us, and thanks to all the guys who were willing to share their stories of what life was actually like behind the ring.

Steve: There is an amazing Aptermag photo from back in the day if you can find the Magazine that it was published in. Believe it or not in 2022 in this snapshot a very young and thoroughly corporate AWA interviewer Eric Bischoff blandly offers the Mic to the customarily yammering Larry Zbyszko as AWA Champ. Larry Z.'s Tag Team partner Tully Blanchard glares into the camera with smug disregard. Two things to keep in mind: Zbyszko later teamed with Arn Anderson to win The WCW Tag Team Championships (giving Anderson and Blanchard yet another common partner). And most incredible of all having been a Heel since he hit Bruno Sammartino with a chair Zbyszko actually turned Face against eventual NWO boss Bischoff!🤔😂🤣😮🎤🐴💎🤼‍♂️B.W.

He said since this match was in Florida and Al had all his family there that night, Al went to the booker and told him straight out he was shooting on flair that night and was going to pin him for the title. I forgot who the booker was, but the booker went and told Gary what Al said he was going to do and told Gary to go and talk to Al and straighten it out. When Gary went to Al and asked if this was true, Al said it sure was and he wasnt going to change his mind. Gary begged him to please dont do this but he wasnt going to change his mind. So what happened was, come match time, Gary didnt come out to ringside so because Gary didnt come out, they made an announcement saying this match wouldnt take place because in the contract, Gary had to be at ringside for this match and since he didnt come out, the match was cancelled and Flair ended up wrestling someone else. Gary was pissed because although he really liked Al and was his manager, there was no way he was going to double cross Ric, a guy he said he loved!! Just got done hearing this from Gary himself from his book so Al Perez is lying right here. To bad because i was also a big fan of Al's work.

You have some of this right. Al was going to shoot on Flair by stretching him out, he told Kevin Sullivan (The booker.) who took it back to Gary Hart, Crockett was the promoter but Sullivan handled it. Gary told him not to do it since it wasn’t how business is done. Al refused to listen to him. Gary told the office what was going to happen and they told him to stay home and they’d take care of it. They fired him in the ring due to exactly what you said, Gary Hart no showed the event as per instructed by Crockett. They had security, not kayfabe security, real security, take Perez out of the match and he was immediately fired. Eddie Gilbert was the substitute for the championship match. Al Perez was a lose cannon, he threaten to break Sting’s legs because he viewed him as a complete prima donna and every wrestler not named Flair as his personal jobber. You’re not going to go far in wrestling intentionally hurting top of the card wrestlers and champions.

I remember that vader vs Ric flair with flair's career on the line match. It makes sense now. Right at the end of the match, vader hit that two arm clubbing off the ropes, and flair bounced right back up looking pissed, took Vader's knee out and got the pin. I always remembered that.

I liked Flairs matches, I could care less if he did the same moves all the time. When I used to watch wrestling in the 70's & 80's the two guys I used to like to watch the most was Flair and Nick Bockwinkle from the AWA. Beefcake is so full of shit. He says he would never put anybody down, but yet that's all he does in every shoot interview, he constantly puts people down.

Looking back it was insane. Even with flairs limited move set it was much more than Hogans. Plus Hogan was always a big man and had few problems early on compared to Rick and his plane crash. I too was caught up in Hulkamania as a 13 year old but I still always switched over to TBS to watch Flair.

@@keithwylie8225 Yes this is what people forget Shawn Michaels was a lot like Mick Foley in wrestling.Shawn thought there was not nothing he could do in a ring.A good bit of Shawn Michaels matches were hardcore matches.Shawn was a daredevil like Terry Funk and Mick Foley.Im not putting Shawn Michaels down he might've hurt his head after taking 28 or more years of bumps.I believe the two greatest wrestlers that ever lived were HBK Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair.I have the two tied as the greatest of all time.Shawn was the high flying, hardcore technical mat wrestler and entertainer who put on five star spectaculars every night.Ric was the great worker, traveling greatest champ, greatest promo, and could make the worst wrestler look like the greatest wrestler that ever lived.Ric could also teach a wrestler how to work and carry them through a match.Shawn and Ric the two greatest G.O.A.Ts of all time.

You can tell these guys took some hard bumps because their memories are sometimes a bit hazey. Jim Crockett, Sr. died in 1973 when Flair was still a rookie in the AWA. Sorry, Mr. (Ron) Fuller, but it had to be Jimmy, Jr. you talked to if it was in 1975. I know I might get some flack for this comment, but I've been a pro wrestling fan for 53 years and I remember when Jim Sr. died and Flair started. Flair would go to Mid-Atlantic in '74.

Billy Graham says Ric Flair couldn't understand why Hogan was so popular. He had captured the country's attention because he was larger than life and was the right guy at the right place at the right time. Hogan was 6'7'' with the "24 inch pythons" (even if exaggerated); he had a decent mainstream "All American" rap during the time when Reagan was popular. He was featured in Rocky 3 with Sylvester Stallone. Plus Hogan was the marquee guy for the WWF when Vince McMahon wanted to sew up the whole country into his wrestling/media machine.

But Hogan generated alot of the more money than Flair. I am wrestling fan and huge NWA fan but Vince knew how to run a business in the 80's the Crockets did not that is why they sold it to Turner than WCW went on to lose the wrestling war to Vince with bad management and Time Warner merger

All the interviews talking about how they "survived" the partying, they all pointed out that they didn't miss workouts, or cardio. I know then the "roid" thing was a "thing", but the fact that they had territories, where they could even out the partying, is plausible.

Hogan did well for a very short time in Japan. Let's not forget how Hogan went to WCW and was falling on his face. The bookers had to turn him heel on Hall and Nash's coattails to get him over. Because his in ring ability was so limited his time had passed. You can only watch about 20,000 leg drops before it gets old.
