You can argue that all of that is his Supervillain origin story. The seeds of it was planted with Seth's betrayal but it was not the immediate cause. It was him getting booed and humiliate that led him to the dark side. And all of it came back to haunt him. Sometimes being a pro wrestling fan for a decade just pays off.

i see it as the end of Roman's era, simple as that. The past he had to defeat to become the Tribal Chief is what came back to cost him the title, from Seth betraying The Shield, to him being constantly compared to Cena as the new super babyface (and Cena humilliating him on the mic), to defeating Taker at Mania only for fans to boo him out the building (the same day he declared "this is my yard now"). All of those elements that finally fueled his persona to go heel and become the most dominant champion of this generation came back to haunt him and ultimately cost him the title, this is no longer his yard now.

The chair shot was my favourite spot in the whole thing. It captured the paranoia of roman, it was 10 years in the making, it made seths involvement in the story so worth it, and it fits with the distraction themed story elements the wrestler who were involved in the male main titles were involved in. Of the four people, who were involved in championship matches, Seth was distracted by the Story of Cody, Drew was distracted by Punk, Roman was distracted by Seth.. the only one who was focused, even though he could've been distracted by Rock, and left with a title, was cody. This chairshot will be my favourite wrestlemania moment of all time

I saw a Twitter thread saying that Rollins did exactly what he intended to do. He got himself and a chair in the ring and that was the moment Roman was done because Seth knew him well enough to know what he would do next. He told Cody he would be his shield and kept his word and the tie back to Drew telling him he would only ever be as great as he thought he was when he learned to sacrifice for something bigger than himself.
