I saw Jake at an Indy show back in 2013 this was when DDP was helping him get his life back together. After the show he got on the mic and stated talking about how he was getting his life back together and I still remember him saying “Kids don’t do drugs” it’s probably one of the best things I experienced at a wrestling show and something that I’ll never forget
@johnnytyrrell70603 жыл бұрын
Jake was the coolest wrestler when I was a kid in the 80s and 90s he was bad ass the way he had the snake in the bag and you kept looking at his matches waiting for him to let it out. One of the best ever.

Jake had his demons. But I saw him at a show in '98 & I'll never forget it. He was in the ring at intermission, taking pics with fans. This little girl (probably 9 or 10) was in the front row asking for an autograph. Jake stopped what he was doing. Had a ln attendant grab the book, signed it & gave it back. Didn't try to get money from the parents like many others back then would've. That girl's smile didn't leave her face the rest of the night. Jake had his issues. But he's a class act in my book.

Thanks for this great documentary on Jake “The Snake” Roberts. I’ve been in attendance at some of his matches and have met him personally a few times. Regardless of how his personal demons had affected him, Jake gave me the impression that he was genuinely a good guy. I have to agree that he was a master psychologist when it came to cutting promos and he didn’t have to yell to be heard nor to get his message across. Jake is tall at around 6’5” or 6’6” but was not overly bulked up like Hogan or Warrior. And yes, I remember the crowd chanting for the DDT...those were the days!

You guys remember that (botched) clip of Jake saying "You wanna play 21? I got 22!" It's actually NOT a botch, but a very clever promo. I'll explain it. "You wanna play 21? I got 22" (As in a .22 caliber handgun) "You wanna play blackjack? I got 2 of those too" (Blackjacks are a type of weapon used for beating people with) "You wanna play aces and eights? I got too many of those too" (Aces and eights refers to the Dead Man's Hand, the cards Wild Bill Hickok was holding when he was shot dead) Although delivered in a sloppy, slurred, drunken manner, it's actually a pretty decent promo! The more you know!

2:55 He wasn't an "up and comer" in early '86. He was already a legend in the territories. WWF fans think that everyone else in that era was like the minor leagues. The NWA territories were far better than the WWF. The WWF just had much better marketing and exposure. Which Vince McMahon deserves a helluva lot of credit for. Putting the superior wrestling out of business with an inferior product.
