Still wading through your older videos. This one is overwhelming, considering I was only collecting from 1970-1976 or thereabouts, and my meager collection was 1/2500th of what yours is. And I had mine in big cardboard boxes, so their condition was... pitiful. And my mom thought mine was getting unmanageable. I'm glad she didn't feel that way about my baseball cards.

This makes me sad and envious only because I grew up in NJ and collected all types of wrestling magazines starting in 1974. My collection was hundreds of issues deep. In 1990 I left for college leaving my collection behind in my bedroom. My father renovated my room and put all my magazines in cardboard boxes in our garage. Well it stormed, the local river swelled and our garage flooded. My father didn't tell me for a year that every one of my prized magazines had been completely destroyed. I was devastated. Nothing quite captured wrestling history like the magazines. Now 32 years later and with pro wrestling no longer existing I miss them now more than ever. There was something about the cameras that they used in the 1970s and early 80s that gave such clarity to the color photos. Sometime around 1985-86 I noticed a sharp decline in photo quality. But man I could stare at those Apter Mag cover photos from the 70s forever. I would love to be able to pay you a fee every so often to sit in this room and look through your magazines. It wouldn't be the same as holding the actual magazines I held in my hands as a young boy but it would be a fantastic treat. And if anyone ever wondered if the fan letters in the Apter mags were real I can say definitely yes they were. I had two letters printed in the Wrestler and Inside Wrestling magazines that I wrote in pencil and mailed. I was astonished when about two months later there was my letter with my name, town and state. I couldn't believe my 10 year old eyes. Anyway the magazines were always my favorite part of the sport. Let me know about renting your room. I'm serious!!!!!

Thanks very much! I appreciate your kind words! I’m sorry I didn’t notice your comment sooner! It’s hard to keep up with over 50 vids and the constant emails from KZbin notifications. You are 100% right about the quality of the mags n photos. The company GC London Publishing who gave us the Wrestler, Inside Wrestling, Sports Review etc sold. The new owners took complete control of the company and made immediate changes, changes for the worst. They were very cheap. They cut down the size of the magazine to just a bit larger then a comic book to save money on paper and shipping weight charges. They started publishing underexposed, overexposed, and flat out blurred photos in the magazines. They used older photos over n over of a wrestlers due to them stopping the photographers from traveling from arena to arena whenever a big show was happening to get the latest photos. That’s something Stanley Weston would never ever do to the fans. He respected his buyers and always gave us the best possible material.. When he sold I stopped buying! I’d grab an issue here and there of Wrestling World, or Wrestling Scene. That sucks about you losing your collection from a storm. Mine survived several hurricanes, tropical storms, and nor’easter’s over 40 years. I remember as a kid having to evacuate when we lived on the shore and south jersey and the only thing I brought with me was two water tight coolers filled with my magazines. I didn’t even bring clothes lol luckily many of the storms never caused any damage to the home. Now if anything were to happen I wouldn’t be able to save this collection there’s way too many. I would have to start completely over again.
@donwilcox7282 жыл бұрын
@@prowrestlingmags Yea losing my collection was tough to swallow. My father would tell the story that in the morning after the storm he suddenly remembered having put my magazines out in the garage. He said there were thousands of tiny fragments left all over our's and the neighbors yard once the water rescinded. Those fragments were 15 years of my young life. Bicycle rides through rain, sleat and snow to get to the town smoke shop magazine stand. Not to mention a lot of wrestling history......gone. Still pisses me off. I can't help it. And now 32 years later I realize that the magazines were my favorite part of the sport. Yes, now being able to see wrestling matches on KZbin that I never dreamed of seeing is fantastic but there's just something special about those magazines. Especially from 1970-1983. Just 13 years. But those years gave us more meaningful wrestling history than the last 39 years combined. It's such a shame that we all allowed a single slimy, backstabbing, egomaniac to literally destroy the whole thing. But we did. He won. And now sadly all we're left with is a bunch of garbage. I expect you feel the same way but you and I were very very lucky to have been fans for what I consider "the golden age of wrestling" (1970-1983). I think the phrase "it was like catching lightning in a bottle" might work here.

Damn reading that I feel your pain! I really do! You sucked me into your story as if I was hearing my father tell me there was fragments of my mags in my neighbors yard. I’m depressed now lol! I don’t remember if you mentioned on past posts, do you have any now? If not, how about going to eBay and grabbing one of your old favs? Just for nostalgic reasons. You can prolly get it in the 15$ range!

Wow......that is simply incredible.....I am super envious of all the amazing magazines you have. I could sit there for a month and just read / relive the glory days. Funny story for you and anyone else that reads this as it pertains to magazines and my stupidity as a kid! As you well know, in Inside Wrestling, The Wrestler, etc. in the 1980s there was a page or two that had champions from every territory listed. As a 6-7 year old kid, there was one wrestler who showed up listed as champion in a ton of territories. I thought this guy was incredible and I couldn't understand how he had so many titles in so many areas. This amazing wrestlers name? Title Vacant......although as a kid I thought he was a star named TEETLE VACAUNT and the guy was THE MAN. I finally went out to show my mom one day. She took a look, the looked at me, shook her head and said "it says title vacant genius... it means no one has the belt" I still take heat for it today in my 40s from friends.

Extremely impressive collection!-I don’t make this well known, but from 1990-1997 I dated Lillian Ellison. Now I’m not a collector, but I was offered, by her, some of her trophies she received in the 70’s when she, and her girls, did their Japan tours. She received these trophies, and proclamations, which she showed me, from the promoters. Basically I could have gotten anything, but I didn’t feel right in taking what was offered.

Wow very cool. You must have some incredible stories to tell. I’ve always liked her. I can’t watch these poor excuses of lady’s wrestling today. It’s terrible. Back then the women were tough rough with a touch of sex appeal. The women could wrestle, and they looked believable. Todays lady wrestling is certainly a far far removal from the great wrestling of the 70s.

People today will never understand how great the 70s and early 80s were. there was so many bouts that took place for the Americas title, so many great Mexican and Lucha wrestlers to be featured in Los Angeles. I know as we get older we think our generation was better. When we were kids the gen before us always says their generation was the best, and I hate to be another older man using that same old cliché. but when it comes to professional wrestling in the 1970s, it is 1,000,000% true fact

Maybe you know of a source, but I do think it would be cool for you to go thru your collection to help us collectors to price stuff fairly! Thanks for the upload.
@prowrestlingmags2 жыл бұрын
You know what, you make a good point. There’s nothing out there for collectors to gage what’s a good price and what’s not. Some eBay sellers are completely out of their minds (trying) to sell a 10$ magazine for 150$ on average the 70s - 90s with shipping included ppl should expect to pay about 20$, that’s a safe blanket statement on average. Some are harder to find then others and sell for much higher. The Wrestler and Inside Wrestling from 1970-1972 sell for more money. They are hard find in good shape. The 60s issues sell for more. Probably in the 30$ range with shipping. There’s a few issues that have the wrestlers cards in them. I made a vid showing them, they sell for a ton. Some In the thousands depending on condition! I believe you are referring to the Japanese issues from the 50s. That is the very first all wrestling magazine ever printed in Japan. There were 3 other issues printed in 1955,1956 but they were combo Wrestling Boxing mags. I’ve never seen that issue online ever! A martial arts friend of mine who lives in Japan got me those. At the time he said there’s one in a used book store for 500$ “but let me search around and see”. So, long story short, he found those 2 issues from 1957 with Thesz for 200$ each. Knowing the rarity and the history behind that match I had to have it/them. Maybe I’ll do a video with the rare harder to find issues and give a price range that they sell for. It would be very hard to put a price on something but a generalization I could do.
@tjdavidsontd2 жыл бұрын
@@prowrestlingmags Thanks for the response! That is really helpful to know for both sellers and buyers! I feel like only you and Jim Cornette could pull off a price guide. Also I'm collecting Lonnie Moondog Mayne and I am have so much trouble finding information (especially autograph) out for the guy other than the basic Biography but collections like yours could totally birth a lost history for so many different wrestler who are in the past! That being said I know that would be a huge task, but I think it would be worth spotlighting Wrestler, like you said in one video wwf completely erased history and rechanged events ( for example if you have a picture of andre off his feet getting slam would be the best example). I would definitely contribute if I could!
@prowrestlingmags2 жыл бұрын
Omg that’s giving me way to much credit my friend me and Cornett. But thank you. Very much appreciate that. It’s really strange with wrestling. About 12-15 years ago the apartment Wrestling issues and issues that had apartment Wrestling dominated the cover sold for hundreds. They couldn’t stay listed on eBay. Auction were running with 30 bidders driving up prices. Then all the sudden outta no where it stopped. They still go for a pretty good penny but nothing like the before. Some sellers just throw mud on the wall and hope it sticks. The only issues I understand selling for a lot were the cards issues. Because ppl cut them out and complete sets were lost or thrown away. But why the others sell for 100 plus is Beyond me. There are several PWI issues one with the four Horsemen, one with the Von Eric‘s, I see them sell in the hundreds I just don’t understand it. They weren’t rare there was thousands printed. The Japanese issues are extremely expensive, for an average every day magazine runs $50-$75 each. That’s what I basically paid before I had my friends in Japan help me. They explain to me why the magazines are expensive and it makes sense it’s too much to type on a comment I did explain it in one of the videos I made for Japanese issues. But those magazines blow away our American issues full color in the 60s we see nothing like that in America until the 90s into the 2000s so I understand paying more for those. I gotta say you picked a tough one to collect in Moondog Mayne. He was not on very many covers at all. He was however on the cover of several “wrestling news” issues and those issues a hard to find specially the territory arena issues! That’s what wrestling news did before it was a new stand magazine. He was in several Japanese magazines in color I just can’t remember which issues off the top of my head. But anyway yes I am going to look into this and see if I can put together a video that will be worthwhile and meaningful to everybody to give some price range quotes for collectors. Ultimately it comes down to the old saying “it’s only worth what somebody is willing to pay” lol that’s true in some cases, but I’ll see if I can narrow it down

Weird I’m just now seeing this. I usually do a good job replying to comments from everyone. I honestly don’t know though. Going by todays measuring stick in relation to being sold on eBay, I have a few that sold for several thousand, I have several that sold for a few hundred, some $10, and a few that never sold that been listed for over a year. If the time should come I’d like to sell it all at once. But I realize the impossibility of that. Just the complete sets of programs alone could really set someone back. Over the past several weeks or months I have been spreading out my collection across my back wall another 12 feet. I’m just amazed at the amount of programs that I have from all over that I forgot about. Programs were not something I looked at all the time and picked them up cheap or were given to me. I’m in the process of organizing them all, and putting them together.

Ahh yea It’s tough. EBay has the biggest blanket that covers the world. No other outlet is as strong when it comes to reaching ppl. Not to mention the protection the buyers/sellers have is great. Depending on what your in search of Etsy has many, but their search engine filter sucks and don’t display only magazines like eBay does. So for that reason I never look on there! Years ago before the internet we’d find them at flea markets(where 80% of my back issue came from) I’d also place adds in the “Wanted To Buy” section in local news papers. I did really really well there!! But that was 30 years ago. Some guys buy sell and trade in social media groups, but it’s a risk. Lotta assholes online that have nothing to lose or consequences to pay if they rip you off.. For that reason I have never ever done that. But then again some guys do it no issues ever..

Back to the Japanese mag with all the belt pics, if I wanted to purchase this mag, under what title and is Ebay the main place to search?
@prowrestlingmags Жыл бұрын
Oh god I’m sorry idk which one you mean, or which one I showed in that vid. There’s like 4-5 belt mags. The one with Lou Thesz on the cover?
@prowrestlingmags Жыл бұрын
Oh shit, wait you mean the really big one with the NWA title on the cover

@@prowrestlingmags It's the one you called the holy grail of belt mags with life size images of the belts. I just saw some for sale on Ebay but the one belt I really wanna see up close may not be in that magazine.

The prices look real good right now because there’s a few listed. It’s a great time to grab it. When there’s hardly non listed is the time the prices will go way up. Here’s a link to a very trusted seller use uses 3 day dhl delivery. But type in championship wrestling belt magazine Japan. www.ebay.com/itm/124954778364?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ITMNEJKzShW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=XRT_JeyfR-e&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

As a wrestling magazine collector I am so impressed with what you have! So I have to say, you sound exactly like Stevie Richards, so all I could picture is Stevie Richards talking to me here in this video about wrestling magazines! Ha ha also, you said you collected everything up until 1993. Any chance you will want to get 1994 - whenever to keep adding to your collection??

Haha I liked Stevie in ECW, it’s funny we have a ton in common! We are the same size 6-1. 235 lbs. I was born one year and one day before him. And no matter what we can’t get rid of our horrible south Philly accent. Any mags I have past 1994 are with the NWO ECW on the covers, only a select issues. The mags went to complete shit IMO when the new owners took over in mid 1993/94 and will never buy them! Thanks for watching! I have over 40 vids on all magazine publications, so check out some others.

Do you have any Vancouver material/ programs?
@prowrestlingmags10 ай бұрын
Not as much as I’d like to have. I love the programs from Pacific Coast Vancouver. I show maybe a half dozen on one of my vids. I can’t remember which one though. I believe it was 1 of the 3 videos I recorded of my “full collection” I walk around and just randomly pick out issues to show. I’m selective when buying Canadian programs and magazines. I try to buy anything with Don Leo, Dutch Savage etc. This link states Wrestlers who died to Soon, but before I covered that topic I walk around the room showing off random stuff about 10 mins in I show a couple issues n programs from Canada that you may find interesting. I don’t show all of it but a few. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aX3dpGeLnLCrkK8si=Qs5AZGM8RhO8d17B

As the saying goes, "everybody has a price." What is your price for selling the collection of magazines and photos?
@prowrestlingmags2 жыл бұрын
Haha honestly there’s no amount of money. I’m very fortunate to have a very well paying job. My bills are paid, I have no debts no creditors to pay. To me Money is a game. It’s only meaningful to the ppl who need it. I don’t need it! I live a very simple life. The new Big things don’t impress me, don’t care about the fancy cars, lavish trips, etc. my kids are grown, been with my wife 27 years. No amount of Money can replace those 44 years of collecting memories. Money can’t give me that feeling I get when I dig through a pile of mags and pull out an issue with Greg Valentine vs Flair on the cover. I instantly get transported back to 1983 when I pulled it off the shelf of a sleazy news and tobacco shop on 42nd street and by late brother in law. Money can’t replace the soda stain on my Philly spectrum program from 1982 when Pedro Morales knocked a cup of soda outta my my cousins hand on to my program when The magnificent Morocco threw Pedro out of the ring. We sat ringside and were eating bags of peanuts. We must have thrown 5lbs of peanut shells on the floor. When Pedro got up his back was covered with peanut shells. It was the funniest fucken thing, we still laugh about that. My entire room is filled with memories just like those. For that reason I’ll never sell not even one issue!!!

Question, do you have the Wrestling All Star trading card magazine? I think it was in 1985.
@prowrestlingmags2 жыл бұрын
I don’t! I have the first 5 I think, maybe the first 8?! I was never into cards! Stupid on me for that because they sell for big money now.

i like your video but you shake alot and im getting motion sickness on some parts

Ha I no! Honestly I never planned on making that long of a vid. I just wanted to get a general overall view of the room. It’s hard holding an iPhone walking around and pulling out stacks of mags while fighting off the glare from the lights. I’ll be making another soon. I added new shelves and changed around a few things. Thanks for watching

Sir do you think you can call me regarding a 1981 issue of the Wrestler? If so I’ll provide a contact number. Excellent channel and impressive collection.
