I attended this live. There was only one spot (I think before the match started) where Muta climbed up the cage, touched the top and recoiled, selling like it was electrified. Otherwise, no indication of the electricity. The fire was not a work, but Muta misting it was. The entrances were all outstanding, enhanced by the licensed songs. We were absolutely brutal on the Dudes. I've been to many Philly WCW shows from that era. Freebirds were always over with us.

The key is a carry over from another of Teddy's stablemates, Norman the Lunatic. Since he was a Lunatic, Teddy was given the key to his room in the sanitarium/insane asylum, and would use it to control him (i.e. "I took you out of the asylum, and I can put you back there...playa!") This was before they toned down Norman into a manchild who loved teddy bears.

I saw this show back in the day. It was another nail in the coffin of kayfabe. From asking me to believe Sting was teaming up with Flair (whom I still absolutely hated) who had no good reason to trust him to asking me to believe the cage was electrified to Luger taking a bump for Brian Pillman’s missile drop kick that missed completely. I called BS and was beginning to admit those people who were telling me it was predetermined maybe had a point.

The Dynamic Dudes theme song was the Beach Boys/Fat Boys rendition of "Wipeout". Not the Beastie Boys. It was a great novelty song in 1987, not unlike most of The Fat Boys catalog (See "The Twist", "Louie, Louie", and "Are You Ready For Freddy?"). However, I will concede that it lost some of its charm by being associated with the Dynamic Dudes. I'd like to note that the Turner Home Video edition of this show does not have any of the promos on it. Judging by what I see here, perhaps that is a good thing.

Really hope he does Great American Bash '89. It was Scott Keith's pick for the best PPV of all time, back in the late 90's and early 2000's. I've got to admit, that's got me curious. Especially since nobody else seems to ever review it.

A match between Sting and Muta would have been great. A match between Funk and Flair, would have been more than great. Why was there a need to have all four of them in the ring with an "electrified" cage?

Don't forget we got "Catch Up" in Germany on RTL+ showing WCW/JCP once a week in 1990/1991. Hosts were John Williams and Horst Brack. Halloween Havoc '89 was available on VHS dubbed in german by Williams and Brack. The tape was heavily cut and contained only three bouts.

@@Steuerknueppel I had/have a couple of VHS PPVs from 89-92 or even 94. I actually don't recall what language they are in. They are buried somewhere in the attic. I think I only watched Catch Up a few times for some reason. Maybe that timeslot was bad for me.
