Always thought that Cena and Batista should have been THE rivalry over the years. Open and underlying. They were completely connected. They made Orton the main rival to Cena, but I always felt it should have been Batista. Not to the extend oft 468 matches like Orton and John, but always falling back on it an have it pop up over the years like Rock and Austin. Felt organically in my opinion, but never went that way…

Two problems with this. One, both were babyfaces and they wanted to represent Raw and SD in the years to come. So that wasn't gonna work. Two, Batista was older than Triple H already. He was not gonna be a next young star like Orton would've been, so he had a shorter shelf life at the top of the card.

I really wish someone had called an audible on that, declare double winners and Imagine they go off air, "tune in tomorrow to RAW and find out what happens next!" Put Cena vs Batista in a "best of" series to finish at No Way Out. JBL's cabinet and Evolution keep interfering, screwing Cena but Batista demands a one on one at No Way Out to prove he can do it himself. I'd probably have cena go over in that after Batista helps clean the cabinet out. Both look strong and both can do a contract signing on the next episode of raw/smackdown.

Also happened to Hornswoggle, but he appeared in another Rumble (lasted a record 3 years, 2008 to being eliminated in 2011). Those other guys had to officially have entered the match to be legal. Honestly, the refs deserve a ton of credit. When Cena and Batista hit the floor they immediately split between deciding that each won the Rumble. In neat continuity, you had the RAW ref declare Batista won, while the Smackdown ref declared John Cena won. Give credit where it's due to Batista and Cena, but good work by the refs helping to sell it

Just the final four in Rumble is iconic on its own. Edge, Cena, Batista, and Mysterio. In a year’s time, their careers take a major leap. Batista and Cena go on to Wrestlemania 21 and win the World Titles, Edge wins MITB the same night, has that memorable Feud that resulted in the Matt/Lita controversy. He cashes in on John Cena at New Years Revolution. Rey wins the next year’s Royal Rumble after that iconic feud with Eddie (RIP Eddie) and wind his first World Title (for better or worse) at Wrestlemania 22. All of that started with the 2005 Royal Rumble final four. That’s insane.

Ever since I originally saw this Rumble I always thought that the best way to show that false finish ending would have been the Smackdown ref raising Batitsa's hand and the RAW ref raising Cena's, but well done on the fly by all involved....Keep up the good work, Mr. Zane...

Great video Brian! Nice to hear you talking about your theatre background too! West Side Story is one of those shows I would still LOVE to do one day. But that commercial? Still my favorite comedic PPV ad from the RA era EVER. No question.

Hi Brian. I been watching your classic PPV Reviews and other videos for a few years now. One thing I have noticed is that (as a suggestion) if a PPV have a theme song for itself, it should probably be worth mentioning in videos like these. I can understand avoid playing songs for copyright reasons, but still. This one is worth mentioning. The one used for this Royal Rumble 2005 was Alter Bridge - "Find The Real". For those who do not know, Alter Bridge is also the group that does Edge's theme song, called "Metalingus". So with Edge and Shawn Michaels on the start, they get the opening pyro with "Find The Real" and "Metalingus" back to back. A bit of a concert, in a way.

This was the first Rumble I watched after not watching for a good few years and I really thought it was a solid show all around and really enjoyed the mix between the veteran talent and the emerging ones at the time.

I really started watching wrestling in probably January of 2004, I got my first TV w/built in VHS Christmas 2003 and remember coming home a couple weeks later and my Dad being home which was weird because he worked 12 hour shift work but he surprised me and got cable put into my room. Let's just say that night 10 year old me stumbled up Raw and was hooked but I was really bummed I had just missed the RR so I really remember being super excited for this show the next year since it was my first RR and being able to see all the stories going into it. Such a great show HBK and Angles build was amazing.

really thou lol i just rewatched the rumble 94 where lex and hart both hit the floor and jack tuney just declared both of them the winners so i guess vince was like just like restart the match(thinks it was a genius idea like the wild card rule) and everyone else is like "no shit vince what else are you going to do?" lol

The quads were definitely a work. They were going to have a storyline where the quads just gave up on supporting Vince's roidy body, pompadour and ego for all those years and was going to try to take over the company, but when Vince saw how more over they were than he ever was, he scrapped it.

A very enjoyable Rumble show. Things to take notice of with the Rumble match is it was full of the active roster and mostly everyone garnered a reaction. Also, the brand split still was taken seriously. Interesting note about HHH vs. Orton, 3 years later, that RKO counter would result in Orton breaking his collarbone.

"Tomko give me a beat." "No." My best friend and I do this exchange at least once a month (I'm always Christian), and there's no planning. We just be hanging out, driving, whatever, and I will just randomly request a beat. With no hesitation, he responds accordingly.
