Marshall gets his hands on a neo-vintage classic, an Oris Big Crown Pointer Date from the 1990's! This is Oris's most iconic model, and it shows what some mechanical creativity can bring to the most widely-used movement in Swiss watchmaking, the ETA 2824-2. Enjoy this service and restoration!

Want to add support to this line of commentary. Have tried watching other channels with a similar intent and this one is hands down the one I enjoy the most. No histrionics, love the way the process unfolds and is covered in a similar manner from watch to watch, the voice over is done really well. Well done, please keep it up. My only suggestion would be do more d*** videos 😛

From one of a kind, hand made parts, to assembly line manufactured parts that replacement parts can drop in and work without having to be aligned or modified, is just hard to believe they can be so small, yet so precise! Having the ability to replace the pallet fork with a new one as you did is a miracle of modern machinery! Thanks for taking the time to show us the process of 'servicing' and repairing such tiny little mechanical computers we all take for granted!

I judge a movement by how smoothly the second hand sweeps and this one, to my eye anyway, sweeps smoother than a Rolex! Only 'electrics' sweep smoother. A quality movement at a fraction of a Rolex cost. Nice service/resto, as usual Marshall!😎👍
@LTC_Tiger
@LTC_Tiger 10 ай бұрын
This actually sweeps at an identical rate to Rolex - 28800 vph (4Hz). The El Primero movement from Zenith, along with automatics from Grand Seiko beat faster, at 36000 vph (5Hz). The biggest issue with a faster beat rate is a higher level of wear, and therefore a shorter service interval. However, if to you the smoothness of the sweep is the ultimate indicator of quality though, you should check out Bulova’s Precisionist line or Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive.
@busker557
@busker557 10 ай бұрын
Appreciate your insight into this although it looked like to me closer to 36,000 vps as it indeed presented a very smooth seconds hand movement, but who knows. Wondering out loud of the accuracy on the time grapher after all reassembly was completed. Cheers!@@LTC_Tiger
@ImAlsoMerobiba
@ImAlsoMerobiba 7 ай бұрын
The irony here is that most "electric" or quartz movements don't sweep. They tick once per second. There are exceptions like Bulova Precisionist and tuning fork movements, but generally it's mechanical movements that sweep. Now if you extend it to wall clocks, some of those do have a continuous sweep.

Went a bit off track on the 2nd watch, an Armourlite limited edition isobrite t100 (charged glow skull dial, t100 vial accents in the eyes, hands and 5 min markers). 3rd I'm hoping I didn't get scammed on, but it's appearing to be the reality. ETA is not just producing movements they also make watches under the name Eterna
@daloriscutone6380
@daloriscutone6380 6 ай бұрын
Its more complicated then that. Eterna created ETA in 1932 as an arms reach assembly company for movement development. Old Eterna movments have many halmarks of manufacturing and design we see later in the 2700 and 2800 series movments. Bare in mind, I think the 2824 came out in the 70's. Now Eterna and ETA are separate entities, Eterna has passed through a number of hands but ETA has been part of the Swatch group, and its forerunners for many many years. I used to be a collector, but I liquidated my collection to venture into real estate. In January, I acquired homes in Malibu for $34 million, and the returns on investment far exceed what I earned as a collector.

How did you grow your portfolio to $45m, I'm impressed, I have a lump sum sitting in the bank, but the interest rates aren't impressive, so I'm considering moving it elsewhere, whats your cash flow like?

I have a financial advisor (trader) she grows my liquid assets and I reinvest the weekly payouts back into real estate and long-term ETFs.

Never seen a pointer date. That’s a pretty cool design and a beautiful watch.

Another great video. My wife’s cousin passed away last year and I was proud to receive her father’s watch, made by the Chatham Instrument Co. He got this watch while in the Navy in WW2 and wore it most days until his passing several years ago. It runs and probably fairly well, knowing Uncle Larry’s maintenance habits. I would like to have the watch cleaned but not really restored. How can I find someone reputable to do that near me.

When you said that it's easy to put the mainspring in, I snickered because I failed twice in a row last time putting a Seiko Bellmatic back together when putting the new mainspring in the barrel. Twice because I bent the first one too much for my liking.
