I practiced this again today, it was much more relaxed than yesterday. The characters also look much better, even if they are still far from perfect. Now I'm happy that I can write complete sentences.

4:20 why specifically this way? Is it because this way you get natural overshot of the strokes?

Hi, good question. There is no standard answer for this, we were just taught to write in this way(and this is the only way) in school. In my opinion, I think this is the most effective way to write 口 with 4 very sharp corners, instead of rounded corners. Otherwise, the 口 would look like a circle when you are writing it really quick.I hope my answer helps.

When drawing freehand, I also do it this way to avoid to get “round corners”.

It took me 2 hours to finish the video lesson. It was challeging and in the end I didn't understand why we started inside. I'll repeat tomorrow and hope I to understand then.

Thanks for your effort. It's a long video and a lot of notes. As for the character 瘦and 这, even though they are inside outside structure, but we need to decide which part goes first. So we follow the other rules, top to bottom. in the character瘦, the radical疒 is on top, so it goes first, then 叟 later. in the character这, the part 文 is on top, so it goes first, then 辶 goes later. I hope my answer helps :)

@@learnwithmandymandarin Thanks for answering to comments. Today I repeated the lesson and now I understand. I could not see that in the character这 the inside part is higher than the outside. You tried to explain it with a drawing, but in your drawing both parts seemed to be the same height.

@@marion6695 You have a good point. In most scripts, the inside part and the outside part of 这 are at the same level, so as my drawing. Only a few scripts, like Kaishu script (楷体) can show the subtle difference. Unfortunately, I can't show you a picture here. But anyway, the easy and lazy way to understand it, is that, the 辶 is definitely at the bottom, which makes the 文 on top.
