A quick tip for using chat gpt as a research assistant: if you add something like "don't make anything up and only give me accurate facts" to your prompt, the answers from chatgpt get way better. Thanks for this video! 😊

These are some great ideas. One thing many KZbin writers seem to neglect are the ideas themselves. Thanks so much.

Call me crazy but I love the research process. Delving into a subject matter I know nothing about by talking to people, watching documentaries, or reading the words of others who are experts in the field, enriches my work in a way no AI ever will. Even if it is not key to the story, nuances like the sound of a coffee grinder, the temperature of a spout, and the aroma of certain beans are all things that only we humans can experience.

Using the kindle app on my tablet was an absolute game changer while I was studding for my degree. The features you mention, equalled instant and automatic organisation and easy referencing. I bought every reading requirement I could on kindle during that time. lol.

Great video. Can you use Chat GPT or other AI tools to brainstorm various options for scene beats of a chapter? Or even an Outline of an entire novel based on Story Grid?

Research assistant, or Random Name Generator, I'm fine with and I think AI excels at it. 👍 BUT, 15:15 erasing my voice as an author and using the machine's idea of someone else's voice is crossing a line. I write to uncover and propagate MY voice. Also the math behind the LLMs is literally averaging: It gives the MOST likely word. It is likely you will not emulate someone else's style, nor develop your own that way. 👎

Hi Tim, I've never used a Kindle in my life, although I've always been curious about it. Is it necessary for me to have a Kindle device to highlight and make notes and export them to a document? Or does the Kindle app suffice and can do the same thing? Your input would be greatly appreciated for a Kindle-noob like me! Regards, Sheena

You can absolutely use just the app and get all the benefits I described BUT it’s such a better reading experience in the actual device. - Tim

This is great thanks. I was working with bing's ai and asked it to make a top ten list of g.i.joe characters for an underwater mission it gave 9 I recognized and one I didnt. I asked it about the character I didn't recognize and its told me that it made that one up. That creeped me out lol

As usual my reaction to this particular, and as usual incredibly educational, video is a simple mind expansive 'WOW that's effing cool". As soon as the dickhead I work for gives me a bit more time I will be looking to get into one of your classes but for now I must fulfill all of the (......ummm whats the word......Oh yea go to ChatGPT! ) obligations to which I have been promised. That's what I get for being self employed. Getting kindle now then buying the trash I wrote a decade ago and making some notes! Some bad ass notes!

Call me a technophobe if you like, but using a tool that only works because it illegally uses licensed and copyrighted materials to train itself doesn’t sound like a good idea. I think I’ll avoid using AI for brainstorming and just do it the old fashioned way.

In these cases, the care for tigers typically includes the following:" So you're MOSTLY right! - Tim

It's so disheartening to watch artists normalize and glorify A.I tools as if it literally doesn't steal from real human artists....There's nothing "artificially intelligent" about that, it's just blatant stealing.

You either join the AI train or you get left behind, we don't have much of a choice do we?
@kayefbutterfly
@kayefbutterfly 3 ай бұрын
@@vyru- The ones who are joining the train are destroying the true point of art. A.I/ChatGPT literally does the same work as a few minutes longer of research you can do by YOURSELF. But it seems like a lot of people find it easier to just steal instead of putting a little of their own hard work for art and it's depressing. But as an artist myself, I'll never support it or stay silent when other people support it.

To be true to your argument, you shouldn't even use Google or KZbin as a source of research and learning. Because before Chat GPT, google and other internet search engines already used machine learning algorithms like data mining and decision trees to study your behavior and be more effective in giving you better results. There is a huge difference between stealing and plagiarizing information and transmitting knowledge. I see the video above as an initiative to transmit knowledge, so that anyone who can't afford it can improve their writing, and Tim was very clear about that. Frankly, your position does nothing to combat what you so effusively proclaim. Better to educate people to make less harmful use of an AI tool. Constant whining has never stopped anyone from using something anyway.

@@kayefbutterfly The real reason people use AI, the reason I use AI is to enrich my creativity. I can't draw, BUT I want to make a visualisation of my character from my book, i'm not going to spend 2 months learning how to draw, i'll just ask midjourney to make my character, it helps artist grow their creativity in ways that would've taken months.
@aimig.1355

I think it all depends on the way you use this. If you do it like in the video suggested, there's nothing wrong with it (in my opinion). I also sometimes use ChatGPT when I can't think of a fitting word to describe something. And in this case I think it's the same as if I would ask some friend or so, they could maybe help me and tell me a fitting word, and where did they got this from? Maybe from reading a book from some artist, but here we don't consider it "stealing". We all learn from one another. And next time I need this word I don't need anyones help but remember it on my own. So did I steal it or did I learn it? But I absolutely agree, to tell ChatGPT "Write me a scene about xy in the style of the author xy" or so, that's stealing and not okay.

Lost my sub off advocating for A.I. It robs creatives of their work and the unifying essence of arts many facets.

I find it apalling that you, someone who calls themself a 'writer' who wants to help writers, so casually advocate the use of technology that robs creators of their work and robs the artist of agency. *no AI 'writing' app was used in the writing of this post.

That's not what I'm hearing. He's using it as a learning tool. That's like slating drivers for driving and insisting they walk everywhere. I hate AI but it is useful if you use it for study. That's what Tim is advocating. The internet is full of other people's work and we don't mind that, do we
