Han Kang wanted to lament South Korea's forceless individuals. She Sobbed and Mourned Gwang-ju Democracy protest against dictator. Victims from corrupt Society and tears that can not exposed were her subject. Han Kang's literature aways make me cry.

How serious she takes all the horror things she witnessed. I admire her attitude of being responsible as a member of the society she belongs to, which most of us are usually not like her. She now has concerns about all the victims in the Middle East and Ukraine, so she has not been in any interviews or events since she received the prize.

the last part - how beautiful and heart-wrenching that passage was. i don't know the complete context but given what i know about the book, I can’t believe someone somewhat removed from the inspiration could conjure something so evocative. was she herself watching it unfold, watching the speaker vocalize that memorial to someone? how can she write such instigating, stirring yet melancholic prose? no wonder she won the prize, i can't wait for my copy of the human act. as someone from a country with its own history of dictatorship, this feels especially timely

After you died (i could not hold a funeral). So these eyes that once beheld you became a shrine. These ears that once heard your voice became a shrine. These lungs that once inhaled your breath became a shrine. The flowers that bloom in spring, the willows, the raindrops and snowflakes became shrines. The mornings ushering in each day. The evenings that daily darken became shrines. After you died I could not hold a funeral, and so my life became a funeral.

"(...) That Gwangju which is coming back to us over and over again" of course it's easy to quote from an outsider's perspective in the context of the recent martial law declaration, but dignified and collective actions were to be seen extensively over these last few days. In the light of the people's overwhelming urge to act and rage, you can really feel the wound is still raw and Han Kang's questions and books ever timely. This portrait is otherwise beautiful and quite unlike interviews that barely give people time to answer. Thankful for it!
