We have many, so go look at them. Don't complain about other things when we already have gotten these types of books and authors.

Indians read a lot. I mean, people in Delhi read a lot anyway. Delhi metro is filled with passengers just reading.

Read a book… you get to think like the writer.. the more time you spend reading the more the writer can influence your thoughts 😊

Definitely and let nobody tell you otherwise. Do try phasing into reading minimally illustrated books or smaller novels, gradually. It will be an effort, but exorbitantly rewarding, there's a whole world of literature to be discovered.

I had read Human Acts early this year. It's a heartwrenching experience. Most writers would go with describing historical uprising with post glories and often tend to forget highlighting actual horrors or do it more in a general way. But to read the life and death of an individual then stretching out to the same but different horrific experience of his comrades and family just wrench you.

"Han Kang Effect" is a temporary one because it has boosted the sales of her books and, most probably, not the readership, as you correctly mentioned that Han Kang's writing is not everybody's cup of tea. Her books are not easy to understand. Moreover, only HB of English translations are available, and that too are expensive for a common reader to purchase and read. Finally, the main enemy of book reading is our smartness, i.e., smartphones -- the biggest distraction in present-day living.

Sad to see that people avoid things until it gets famous and trendy or wins an award. But what's the point if readers were there for The Book and not for the books 🙂

Nothing especial s.korean society is obsessed with trends ...they follow anything that is trending for a specific period of time and then they will follow another thing that is on Trend....btw this time trend is meaningful because reading books is the best thing for self development and for understanding oneself and world.

Yeah, I'm sure another "irresistible" trend will emerge just before Christmas, and the masses will abandon regular leisurely reading for more doomscrolling by New Years'
