I think you'd like "The Writ" off this album. It's their angry open letter to their record label & management (hence the title of the album "Sabotage"). "Symptom of the Universe" is the best known off this album, but "Megalomania" is my favourite. 9+ minutes of class.

Geezer Butler (bass) wrote 99% of the lyrics. The songs usually started with a Tony Iommi (eye-owe-me) riff, and the band would build a song around it. Ozzy would create the vocal lines and melodies by singing random lyrics and sounds over the instrumental. Geezer would then write lyrics that fit the vocal lines. I've read in a couple of interviews that that was their basic method. Peace.

I paused 2 secs. in. I'm 58 and have been a big fan since I was 13. This is very cool tune. It's got the Iommi riff and Ozzy's vocals sound good, what makes this Sabbath tune unique (to me anyway) is that keyboard/synth/ bit behind the scenes that is a sound that was probably new to them and they nailed it!

Only other one I've heard of is Bad Company's first album, titled Bad Company, w/ the song Bad Company. I'm sure there must be some obscure albums out there that fit the bill, but anyway if you know any more I'd love it if you share. Thanks man...

I sing in a Ozzy tribute band called Madhouse I love this album no bad songs Symptom of the universe , hole in the sky, Megalomania. Geezer writes many of the lyrics

"Savage" is best song on this album. The lyrics speak truth to how we (mis)treated Native Americans, as no other song ever has

Geezer writes almost all the lyrics on the first 8 albums (this is number 6). Ozzy wrote the last track on this album (The Writ) and it is stellar. Tony builds the riffs and Bill fetches the sauce. Geezer's bass is, well, unstoppable.

Geezer wrote almost all the lyrics for the classic original period. He was raised Catholic, intrigued by a lot of mysticism in it, and thinks he had untreated depression all through his younger years. So he had a lot of thoughts and ruminations on life. Don't know what you've done already, but War Pigs and Hand of Doom are also great songs with classic Geezer lyrics. PS I love this whole Sabotage album. The first 3 songs are meant to be enjoyed together the way they're on the album to get the total experience: Hole in the Sky - Don't Start - Symptom of the Universe.

Iommi starts with a capitol i so it's pronounced EYE-OH-MEE, Tony Iommi Yes, Ozzy is Lord of the "Oh Yeah's" lol. Sabbath were the MASTERS of transitions!!! Metallica, Nightwish and many many other bands were influenced by Sabbath in so many ways.

This album is a highlight for me. They got a little proggy and sophisticated on this and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath from the previous year. They lost some fans but i think its the best of period of their career.
