Here’s a new book by an author who’s new to me: The Smiling Man by Joseph Knox. Not a book I’ll forget in a hurry, and irritatingly, I think I’m going to have to buy his other books too!

I am nearly finished with this one. Waits just wrapped up the case and is going after Bateman. I really enjoyed this. Aiden is a flawed character but somewhat relatable. Sutcliffe helps to show how much worse Waits could actually be. I hope my local library has "Sirens" when I return this.

I'm very late to the game, but I've read this and the first one, Sirens, they're both very good books and had me turning the page to see what happened. I'm currently reading the third book in the series and so far so good.

When you read a book do you buy it in a series or is it based on what catches your eye?

Hi, Ali, When I find a writer I like, I will usually try to find other books by the same author, but it's a little different with books like this. I am regularly send books to review or comment on, and so a lot of my reading is directed by what the publishers send me at any time. However, I will always chase down authors whose work I enjoy, whether it's a series or a one-off. I had to have every book Terry Pratchett wrote, just as I always had to buy the latest John Mortimer as soon as they were published. Basically, when I find a writer whose work I love, I have to get more of that "fix"!
