As a girlie who likes her romance ESP fantasy romance from korean authors about the girl who somehow ends up in a book or goes back in time or some other stuff, I second the notion of just getting your story out in the wild. I have seen countless numbers of magicians, princes, dukes and so on and so forth falling in love with out unsuspecting (or suspecting) female protagonist and I am still reading the same stuff over and over and over again because it's just straight up fun. The generic trope of "a genius magician probably with white hair who is also a little bit/a lot bonkers" can still be written in a number of fun ways! Reference for romance readers: Arvin from "Miss not-so-sideckick", Lucas from " Suddenly from I became a princess one day" and Felix from " I have become the Hero's rival" are still 3 different people despite the fact that in the bare bones of their characterisation they are ultimately the same character - a genius mage who is powerful and has a couple of loose screws and takes a liking to the main character.

Exactly! The Romance/Romantasy genre is a great example of this kind of thinking. There are plenty of people looking for stories within a single trope: Friends-to-Lovers, Forbidden Love, Rivals-to-Lovers, etc. The fact that there are plenty of stories out there using these tropes has zero impact on an audience's desire to read those stories. Thanks for bringing up a great point!

@@Writing-Theory John Truby's Genre book proposes that readers (and film-goers, etc.) specifically want to experience the generic undergirding, and then be surprised by the details.

I love the background noise commentary! That was a fun touch that made me laugh.

You should do an in depth analysis on different dialogue methods, and how to implement them with your character voice and plot.

I wonder how any of these structures relate to "hyperlink" plots. Also I wonder if a "pass the ball" narrative has ever been tried with an ensemble. I've only seen this in Netherrealm fighting games (formerly Midway) the plot is broken up into chunks where each character is given just enough time to advance the plot before someone else steps in to serve a similar function. Probably wouldn't work in a movie, but you never know.

I've recently Discovered your videos and they are so good and well presented. They are on my level and are so full of good advice. On this subject of plotting, this is my weakness and this video is very informative. I will watch this and other videos by you more than once. I will definitely benefit from your teaching.

As a previously exclusive pantser, I hate thinking of plot like this. It makes me feel incredibly claustrophobic and methodical. I also can't finish anything because I end up losing interest or steam somewhere right in the middle. It's hell, send help.

The background music or whatever that noise loop is here, is distracting. I keep thinking I hear someone calling out or a car horn honking nearby and it interrupts listening to what you're saying.

Thanks for the feedback! Sadly, I also think my audio was a little too quiet this video, which likely doesn’t help the situation.

@@Writing-Theory I had no issues in that department; was able to hear you clearly, but also the repeating sound loop (and what may have been intentional prompt noises). Sorry to comment only to mention this issue. The video content is good, if nothing advanced or unique. You probably just want to be able to bring new writers up to speed, and that's cool. I'm subbed and looking forward to more. 👍
