I find this fundamentally flawed to conclude by saying that our inspiration will burst out of us without any effort as Bukowski suggests. Most writers must work for a long time staring at blank pages in order to produce their most visceral works.

I have experienced both. And the first is lovely; it is so close to the surface, I don't have to break into my mind too much, because the story is already there.

Bukowski was trying to goad you and egg you on, mock you so you light a fire and prove him wrong.

I think he's trying to piss off writers from every nation to continue despite what belowski's says. He wants you to despise him so you could prove him wrong.

As this is poetry, you seem to have missed the point. He's challenging the audience to prove him wrong. It's not an absolute, and he's not literally saying no one should ever write--hence poetry. It's sole purpose is to inspire and provoke to action. And if it elicited an emotion and a response from the audience, then his poem worked.
