Brilliant coaching. He really outsmarted those, what, nine-year-olds maybe? So his team scored. Perhaps they even won the game. But the detrimental lesson he taught to those kids -- doesn't matter if you violate the spirit of the rules as long as stay true to the letter -- outweighs those and any other benefits by far.

the best trick play ever: when my dad played football in the 70s, they had a running back who was black, and had skin the same tone as the gameball. they put white stripes that looked like a football, and on a bootleg, he ran past the line with his shirt up and everyone went for him. the qb throws the ball to a revciever going the other direction: touchdown, in front of 11 witnesses.

Here's a quote: "Under HS Federation Rules 9.9.1 Unfair Acts - Football has been and always be a game of deception and trickery involving multiple shifts, unusual formations and creative plays. those two grown men are very satisfied with themselves at the 0:25 second mark. the only thing more disappointing is that little league coaches cannot take 10 minutes at the beginning of every season and go over this play so their defenses don't end up on youtube. we practiced this probably 15 years ago in little league and after some of the assistant coaches complained that it was both cheap and likely to fail, the head coach scrapped it.

Here is the rule verbatim: 9.9.3 SITUATION B: From a field goal formation, potential kicker A1 yells, Wheres the tee? A2 replies, Ill go get it and goes legally in motion toward his teams sideline. Ball is snapped to A1 who throws a touchdown pass to A2. RULING: Unsportsmanlike conduct prior to snap. The ball should be declared dead and the foul enforced as a dead-ball foul.

I mean, you've coached at every level short of international competition and can dispense tips to anyone you think is listening, so you must be good. And -- AND! -- you could get six-year-olds to quote rule 87(E)(iv) in the Pop Warner manual while running the West Coast Offense. Again, it's borderline unbelievable!

Most youth football programs play under existing NFHS (high school) football rules. This is an unsportsmanlike foul called out in the NFHS rules and case books.

@paulyd04 No - it is illegal in HS! the casebook that is given out with the rule book that contains plays and rulings on the listed plays, it states that while tirckery has always been a part of the game, verbiage or actions that are intended to make the defense think the snap is not imminent is not legal, and results in the play being whistled dead and an unsportmanlike conduct penalty being assessed. Your players used verbiage "wrogn ball" and the coach saying "bring it here". Illegal.

While this situation isn’t expressly prohibited by rule, I would have thrown a flag on the play and called it back because it is illegal to do things that circumvent the rules in an unsporting way. That allows a lot of judgment to be in play by the officials. I think every official I know would call this back. Football is really big into the spirit of fair play…and this is not within that spirit.

Ditto, against my nephew's team. Several members of the defense reacted as though the play had started when they did the side snap. None of the offense did, of course, and the QB got smeared. Kind of a letdown for the other team, I'm sure.

Yea its legal as long as the center gives the ball to an elligable player its considered a legal snap. NFL and NCAA will allow a play like that but its almost never ran because the players are good enough to know to go as soon as the ball is moved not by sound or the QBs count. So yea its legal it can be run in NFL and NCAA but its just almost never ran because the players are too good to fall for it.

Oh, quit your whining people! Football isn’t just about strength. It also involves strategy, tactics and yes, even guile. The other team got fooled, plain and simple. They weren’t paying attention and they paid for it. If the play was against the rules it wouldn’t be allowed. That coach isn’t being unsportsmanlike or a “dick.” He has just taught them - both teams! - to think and pay attention.

It's totally legal, if you look closely, the o-line is lined up. but when he side snaps it and said wrong ball they stood up. This play is legal, but really douchy. Pee wee football as someone else said is for learning. This is a ghetto highschool play. The team that first ran i heard even hired a lawyer to come up with this play.

We ran this same play a few years ago in our little league playoffs. My friend was playing quarterback. There wa 3 seconds left in the game. so, we ran it. The refs called it illegal. but then a week after the championship, they had a meeting and discussed it. It's perfectly legal. We still lost though. haha

I really don't think those kids should be learning to play like that. all that kid knows how to do now is not get hit. some of my best plays at RB was me getting low and driving through the linebacker. as linebacker, i come to some of the best RBs and FBs ive ever seen. big hits can mean clean get away.. the only person that has ever tried to run around has been lit up. This play will never work more than once against the same team because the QB exposes himself and will get hammered. You are correct, a play action pass is DECEPTIVE, as are most trick plays. However, they only use PLAYERS, not coaches. Don't compare fans to COACHES. A home team doesn't "use" their fans like this QB used his coach. You're logic is so flawed it's not even funny.

Every other trick play out there doesn't involve anyone on the sidelines. Only PLAYERS in the game. 2. This is actually a gimmick and will only work once against a given team, if it does. A true trick play can (and is) used again and again. 3. This is lying. Lying is UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT.

In little league baseball games players advance bases on a foul ball. I've seen umps miss it. How do you know this play hasn't been stopped in recent years? All these vids are 2-3 years old. There's really nothing else to say to you. I've already quoted the rule that shows this play is ILLEGAL.
