My brother and I have owned a welding, fab and machine shop since 1988 . He had a stroke 5 years ago at 53 which took the use of his left side . Your brother should greatly appreciate you taking a part in his business! Being in business with your brother simply means you have the ultimate partner especially if the two of you have the same goals . I hope your surprise is that you are about to enter into a successful partnership in SD . Best of luck

Longtime since I've commented on anything, but this is my specialty, I did custom iron work for 25 years, a lot of period specific recreation, that fence there was probably ordered from Montgomery Wards or Sears and Robuck catalog, could have been done by a local blacksmith, very few were welded,it was like a kit, square head bolts and nuts,in some cities that have historical registries require the new fences, look as they did then.

Actual wrought iron was used before the 1900s if Im not mistaken. The fence is over 100 years old and probably dates to when the home was built. Love the content and yes bringing something old and broken back to new and usable is very satisfying. I love welding also and been doing it for 27 years.

OMG, Austin, you have a repair history! I have never deleted your work, Austin, because I have watched all your KZbin videos. That is why I picked you to redo my old Bob King bed, and I love what you did to it. If someone is new, please go back and watch all of Austin's KZbin videos, and you will know how good this man can weld, fabricate, and do any job out there. Great job, buddy.

Over the years, I have really enjoyed welding projects together, since 1988. About 4 years ago, I acquired a South Bend metal lathe and an Index metal mill. This has brought my project and repair builds up to a precision level. You should consider the investment. I now make so many parts for the farm equipment. I'm sure you would enjoy that too. So satisfying to repair and rebuild old parts that are not available on old machinery

Oh yeah, that's over 100 years old. I work as the welder/fabricator at an architectural salvage business, I've repaired a lot of those and we actually have that style of fence and gates

the Cincinnati iron works was located in Covington ky when I was young, I have repaired a few gate and fence from them and other companies, we were also told that they did work for jails not sure if that is true. The buildings were located at 17th & Madison Avenue. The main building were tore down and one of the building were converted. Around the Covington and Cincinnati area have a lot of old fence still up and looks good, biggest problem is people that own then don't repair and paint to protect them. glad you liked to repair them.

That style of fence(ing) is what I would describe as cemetery fence. very popular design by the way. The only difference is the Finials used per the design. No standard finial design, I'm guessing it came down to what a customer could afford. The other small detail that changes is most times the fence is built with 1/2" in round. Seeing how I'm guessing this was a height of say 4' Ft. they used the 3/8" in., so I'm guessing when building the taller 5-6' Ft. it must have been common to use the thicker 1/2" in round stock. I'm in shock that the SPRING METAL (a.k.a., music wire, no joke that's what it's called,) used for the Latch was still working as designed. AWESOME detail. Thanks for sharing.

We been in the fence business for over 50 years. We have some of that in our historic district and its been around the turn of the century usually between 1890's to around the late 20's. That when fencing started to change to different style.

Arron if you can't use your slam bar , all you need to do is get out one of your pipe stand and take the head out and side your umbrella in it works great, or you can wretch strap it to the fence.

The cemetery in spearfish has a lot of those same gates, and a lot of them are in need of repair. You should see if they'd be interested in having you fixing them while you're in town! It would also give you a good idea of what time period they're from by going off the headstones. I've never met your brother, but I've been around him a few times. The KZbin algorithm really hits some home runs sometimes.

Cool, nice repair. A few questions if I may, does your brother's shop Mig welders are gas or gasless(flux core)?, also on the other video where you told us that you worked in a fabrication shop for 3 years using mostly Mig, were they gas or gasless(flux core)? I know you said that Mig is faster for fabrication, but with your current advanced abilities with stick, if it weren't for speed, could you do all that fabrication with stick also?
