So I have a CVT and it’s stage 2. I truly agree with you that it’s fun to drive if you drive it responsible. Not abuse it and not launch it. For daily driver the CVT can definitely handle stage 2 very well. CVT can handle spirited driving if it’s done with respect of cvt.
@OscarHernandez-lx5qz4 жыл бұрын
What specific mods did you do to achieve stage 2? I am thinking of installing : COBB AP , MAPerforance Cold que intake , MAPerformance Catted downpipe & a Tomei Expreme exhaust... will have it pro-tune of course but want to play it conservative... it’s my daily commute car & I’m pretty responsible while driving.. you think that would hold all good ?

I also recommend DBA rotors, HPS hawk performance brake pads, with steel braided lines, upgrade the brake fluid to support higher temperatures. You can do it all yourself, not hard, and makes a huge difference.

Two thoughts: 1. The ECU update from Subaru isn't half bad. (On my 2015) 2. If you'd like a snappier ride feel, there may be a way to prevent the computer from learning how you drive. I've noticed a lot of difference in how the car feels after the computer is reset.

Man i think you need a limitation on term's of torque variable in dependence of transmission ratio to avoid damages in that CVT for example at middle ratio will permit more engine torque than from stand still,in between... I suggest you to not lunch of course, drift on tramak is for good old geared boxes, maybe...on grass covered with snow. I almost forgot,you have that great lockable or Lsd center Dif on it?

@@akqjtn find at what speed you have the chain parallel if you know what I mean and get there the most of desired boost,at higher speed I don't know will be equally or lower the torque resistance but in the middle will keep some boost having bigger contact path on driving (engine) pulley, probably you will get up to 170% of the stock torque there,on point good for overtake,

Great videos. You're one of the rare few on KZbin with info on the WRX CVT. Just my opinion, but would you consider possible toning down the scene transitions a little bit? I'm looking at you, and not 4 seconds later I see your dashboard. By the time I make out any detail on your dashboard or accessport, the scene changed again towards you. The very short duration between cameras makes this frustrating to watch. I had to put the phone down and just listen. Otherwise great information you provide!

As someone that also lives in the NY/NJ area and uses his CVT WRX as a daily driver I was really debating whether or not I should get a CVT cooler. From the first view it seems like a no-brainer (assuming you're okay to risk the warranty denial to begin with) but after thinking about it, my bigger concern is, with the cooler installed, how much longer is it going to take for the CVT to reach safe (not even operating) temperatures in our winter months before it's fine to drive. What are your thoughts on that?

Hi Boost & Shutter, I really love your content. I watched almost all of your videos. My 2017 WRX limited CVT in dark grey (yep same exact car as yours) was rear ended on highway by some unlawful drivers back in August (fake DL, uninsured). The rear left corner was vanished. Been in the body shop for almost five months, I finally picked up the car yesterday. The shop did a great job on repairing it (frame was pulled, overall a $17k repair). The car looks the same, but at the same time it's not THE same car again. At the beginning, I felt angry and upset: all my time, effort, energy, money that has been put onto modding this car was easily taken away by some dumbass driver. Now I feel more powerless and disappointed because nothing I can really do about it. Before the accident, I had a long TODO list for future mods, now I no longer want to put energy or money into this car, yet I don't feel selling it is emotional or financially sound - it was the first new car that I bought (financing it, still owe 11k, carmax appraised the car at current state for $17.5k) for myself after college graduation and working for two years. I don't really know what to do.

Great detailed video. What improvement, gained from your stage 1+ mods, would you say had the biggest impact? I bought a 18' cvt WRX last March (first winter with in Quebec, yay) and have been juggling with the idea of a stage 1 tune vs keeping that warranty intact. Although you are currently stage1+ you mention that you are using OTS map tables. Perhaps you should consider investing in something more customized to your vehicle, in current form, for example an e-tune from a reputable cvt tuner. At the very least you would gain more knowledge about your car and experience the full spectrum of stage 1 mapping.
