Nice to see it from another angle, been a while since I've gone up that (the harder) way. The TCR is going in for gearing change soon to help try and spin up more, so I can keep the watts down and not have to grind it out so much.

Aye It's nice to actually be able to look around at the view going up that way, stunning.. coming down there is only one place to be looking and that is definitely not the view or the grazing Herdys off in the distance! 😁 So the gear change on your bike goes against what I'm trying to do at the moment in my training but I haven't ruled it out as it makes sense not to be burning unnecessary matches grinding and grimacing 👍

Grinding out is definitely what I've done in the past, but that can only go so far. 36/30 isn't pleasant up there!

@@CycletheNationgravel bikes are handy for hills, I've a Freeranger too and 42/42 makes life just that bit easier.

It's that easier sort of hard gearing! It's a great tool for lumpy stuff up and down 👍

Is the gearing ok on the really tough stuff or would a smaller front chainring be better?.

Smaller would be better as it gets super steep and it would save muscle fatigue, but how small you go to make it easy... you can't go that small as it wouldn't ever get easy as it's a steep hill! Smaller would reduce the muscle suffering but you maybe on the hill longer 👍 There's no secret sauce hence the increase of training 💪 Thanks for asking/commenting 👍

What gearing do you have on the gravel bike just out of interest. I’m hoping to do the fred this year

Its running what I ordered it with SRAM PG1130 Cassette 11-42T Force 42T Not sure how this would translate to on the day performance having never set the bike up for road specific cycling. It is a comfy/endurance frame/geometry so could be suited to a Fred!!
