This entire report is garbage. Gators are native to GA.

In 1996 and 1997, I was stationed at Warner Robins Air Force Base which is in middle Georgia. There were indeed alligators on our base. This story is a bit misleading because it is coming off as saying that alligators are not native to middle Georgia. But what I believe they are trying say is that far up the Chattahoochee River alligators are less common, and now are becoming more frequently seen.
@SaveUsfromHarris
@SaveUsfromHarris Ай бұрын
@@chi773guy That is possible Gators have been spotted as far North as metro Atlanta on the very past. I think your right but the video is spoon feeding as obviously if you live in Georgia than you know. You can go back in weather history and see many years where it didn't snow. Its just a cycle and it will snow again in Georgia people think it's over and it will never snow. The chance of it snowing in Georgia is already very low it's Georgia for crying out loud.

My uncle was stationed there thru the 70s 80s 90s and he said they'd shoot them off tarmac to keep planes from hitting them .there all in the swamps and rivers all the way up to Covington ga . I seen one one morning at day break driving North on 247 leaving wr and it was 19 ft long had crawled up outa that swamp between smileys and Krystal's it had been ran over and messed up several people's cars ,the police had to dispatch it . That same are since the 70s several people had crashed down in swamp and they were never found people always said that the big gator got them the gator I seen was 4 ft wide and jus did touch white line to white line when it was a 2 lane . That old bridge where fisherman used to hang out in the 70s and fish and down there on banks jus slightly north of Krystal's had several fisherman snatched off bank in the 70s early 80s .

100% correct Scout Lake and Luna Lake on Robins AFB have always had a gator population, The Ocmulgee River runs directly behind the base less than a mile from the flight line in some areas, Houston County Ga, is home for the base !!!

Thank you for clarifying. It’s probably because those snakes are taking their territory and also less natural predators. I have heard they are in mid Alabama as well but were brought in by people.

I live in AL, alligators have been in certain areas for a very long time. You could see the muddy river banks with their footprints and tail tracks in some rivers when I was a young teen in the early 70s, Lake Eufala, Warrior River, Spanish Fort Mobile areas. Alligators are a part of life in Southern coastal states, so are Moccasins and Eastern Diamond Backs. When you begin seeing young palms in the woods, cypress bogs and Spanish moss you're in their territory.

Very misleading video. Sad to see that some of our DNR officers are so misinformed. Alligators are native to South Georgia all the way up to the Fall Line, which happens to run right through Muscogee County. Alligators haven't "migrated" from Florida as is suggested in the video. They've always been right on the edge of "middle Georgia".

Alligators are native to Georgia... they live in Georgia this has nothing to do with climate change. Saying the gators are migrating north from Florida is weird.
@Guy-t5b
@Guy-t5b Ай бұрын
I agree - and not just Georgia….. alligators are now common behind the Mississippi River levee as far north as Tunica and Friars Point….in some areas DNR conservation efforts reintroduced the alligators along parts of the Mississippi River and surrounding areas after their populations declined significantly in the 20th century. Over-hunting and habitat loss led to a steep drop in alligator numbers, pushing them close to extinction in some parts of their natural range. Conservation efforts, particularly starting in the 1970s, helped their numbers rebound. In states like Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas, wildlife agencies introduced alligator management programs, which included reintroducing them into suitable habitats within their historic range. These programs focused on regulated hunting, habitat protection, and some reintroductions to areas where populations had been depleted. These conservation efforts and protections under laws like the Endangered Species Act, alligator populations have now stabilized and EXPANDED, allowing them to naturally repopulate parts of the Mississippi River (and other areas) and surrounding ecosystems. But to your point, I think global warming is a cop out blame….as population of the alligators grows they move looking for suitable reproduction areas and food sources. Who knows 1000 years ago their natural range may have been much further north.

Folks seem confused. Nobody is saying gators aren’t native to Georgia. It’s unusual to have them that far north in the river. And there is no path from there to the swamp. That’s why the people they interviewed kept talking about the gators going back to Florida. That’s where they came from.

See, what happened was... A long time ago, Some Florida University students wanted to one-up Georgia University and set two small gators loose in the river for the future expansion of Gator Nation. The apex gators then heard the song "Let's get it on" by Al Green ( I believe), started a family, invited some other gator friends up to visit because Florida is over populated and is targeted by Hurricanes. And, today, gators control the Chattahoochee River; and, in a few more years, Georgia will be the second State taken, held, and occupied by the Florida Gators.👍👍🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Humans are NOT prey for alligators. They prefer smaller prey. Crocodiles, that is different. Confrontation between gators and people are caused by people.. Mess with their nests. Swim in their water. Try and pet a wild one, or like it has happened here, some dummy thought they could fight a gator. Stupid humans who walk their little dogs by canals, or let them swim, cause dogs to be attacked. I am in Florida, and have gators in the canal behind my home. I respect them, and they don't bother me. When I lived on the west coast, Sea Lions and humans had bad interactions, sharks too. Pretty much always started by humans, and NO it is NOT climate change, it is humans encroaching on an animals territory, usually by over building, destroying food sources, or contaminating the environment.

I kayak and fish in south Alabama and the Florida panhandle. Gators are all over the place. Like most animals, if you don't do anything to attract or antagonize them, they are not likely to bother you. Don't take your dog with you. Don't clean fish upstream of your campsite. Don't walk along grassy edges of rivers or ponds at sunrise or sunset. And for God's sake, don't try to approach their nests or feed them.

They always say they brought the alligators here how about since I was born in Florida it seems like about 100 million people have moved here in the past 50 years. They say the gators almost got extinct in the 60s.- well I don’t believe that for a second there is so much dense swamp in Florida and when it’s cold out, it seems like the alligators don’t even have to come up for air too often. You could never get them all, however the gators nay be moving to where there’s less people- I’m thinking about it ! Lol Also, how about this fitting in with the book of revelation during the great tribulation the wild animals are going to be attacking those who didn’t get raptured 🙏🏽🇺🇸🇮🇱🌎
