Why are people in this comment section being so uncivilized? Respect all the debaters here, it takes A LOT of guts and skills to represent their nations in the WSDC. If you said some things people in this comment section have written, you'd be kicked out of any professional debate for equity violations.

Yeah I feel like that happens a lot in the comment sections of WSDC, especially compared to uni debate videos. Maybe it’s a combo of slightly immature kids watching + entilted parents. England’s a good team, they made finals last year and their first speaker got to WUDC semis the next year. Weird to treat such accomplished debaters like this

Can't England just argue that rehabilitation can be considered an option among many? Why did they argue like the debate was about rehabilitation vs prison?

England should have argued the impact on society and how this would lead to getting away with crimes and that ultimately would lead to more crimes and people losing trust on the justice system. If I know I can rob a bank and in return would have to only spend 10 months in a rehabilitation centre if I get caught, I am more likely to do so. Also, they should have argued on how groups would form in rehabilitation centres as well like in jail and the stigma will shift as well to these centres while hiring or in society if they get flooded with people who commit crimes.

@@laibaahmad6217 Umm, actually China has the largest economy and I would argue Japan and SK are more tech savvy than the US, so my question still stands :)

@@hurmatfatima6031 The United States is the superpower projecting military, economic, and cultural influence across the world. Other states are better in certain sectors, but the US is the standard upon which Europe was rebuilt, constitutions were based on, and where every nation sends their best and brightest. The fact that the WSDC is being conducted in English, not Mandarin, should inform you of such. Saying that China has the largest economy in the world is also a flat-out lie. By every measure of gross domestic product besides growth, China is beat.

What kind of rebuttal ?
@panko67792 жыл бұрын
@@nairamubarak8905 For example, prison costs more money than rehab as it's literally giving free food and shelter. It's also not a long term solution to saving money, and with each increasing prisoner, the government has to use more and more money. So how on earth is that saving money?
@nairamubarak89052 жыл бұрын
@@panko6779 i don't think England could argue that since they were in favor of prisons over rehabilitation but presumably rehab was more expensive with the cost of counselors etc i still think side prop's argue argument on how rehab reduces the people that go to prison which in the long run would actually save money for the government
