Great video - Unfortunately two days late for me as sat Level 3 2 days ago :-) We got asked a lot about Germany, Cabernet Sauvignon and South Africa on the short answers, however it could be anything I guess!

I got Hungarian Tokaji, Bordeaux and Pinot Noir on my short answers. It was pretty tough. Hope it works out for you.

Hi, I have just passed my WSET II Exam and I am thinking whether I should take WSET III for the coming year. My concerns are: First, WSET III is quite expensive. Second, should I take III immediately after II? or should I take a gap year and try more wines before I move on to the next step? Thanks a lot for you help and your videos are great! Love it!

This is a great question and it all comes down to you as an individual. I took 12 months in-between Level 2 & 3 as I wanted to continue my knowledge and improve my tasting skills outside of the classroom before jumping back in. As you rightly point out it is a lot more expensive and so I had time to save for the Level 3 course as well. Best wishes with whatever you decide is good for you.

7 out of 12 with some strait up guesses. Although, as a Canadian I would like to mention that Canada has some freaking fabulous wines - particularly around the Okanangan in British Columbia. It's not all ice-wines.

managed 4 from the first 6 but then went downhill then. I didn't have a clue about most of them but I like the fact you post questions.

Thanks. It definitely gets harder at Level 3.

Just got the results of my wset 3 exams! Pass with merit!!!! What does it mean!? Does it mean I only wrote the minimum to pass???
@TheGrapeExplorer3 жыл бұрын
That's great. That means you scored higher than just a pass. Pass with merit is a good achievement

Hi, first of all thanks for your video! It’s very helpful. I’m preparing my Level 3 as well. I’ll be in London like once in a week sometimes due to my work. So I’m wondering if there is any 1 day wine course(or else) I can take to build my knowledge? Any suggestions? Thank you in advance:)
@TheGrapeExplorer4 жыл бұрын
One day wine courses are offered by a number of wine schools in London. I studied with the West London Wine School. I would check them out to see what's on offer. Cheers

For me, on the Cava, question I would have put b; because Cava can only be made in regions that used the term Cava before the D.O. started; so is Cataluña, La Rioja, Aragón, País Vasco, Navarra, Comunitat Valenciana & Extremadura; and for a D.O. to be an appellation the grapes have to be from that region, so is not the whole of Spain, it would be from a number of delimited regions thoughout Spain.
@TheGrapeExplorer4 жыл бұрын
You can make Cava anywhere, as long as you adhere to the rules of the D.O.. For this reason, many people often get confused and assume that all Cava comes from its traditional home of the Penedes. Technicality perhaps however by following specific rules in the production it would be possible. And from the choices available the region's where it is made are all over Spain. Thanks for the comment.

@@TheGrapeExplorer Firstable of all, we love your videos but... in that case you are wrong and Ximena Lasa is clearly right. Have a look in the link bellow from Cava Consejo Regulador and in the 6th page (Delimitación de la Zona Geofráfica) you can have a look of the villages where is possible in Spain to produce D.O. Cava. www.docava.es/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Plec-DOP-CAVA-2019.pdf

About your Cava question, I'm not quite sure if your answer is correct. Quote from the textbook: "Cava is an unusual DO as it covers a number of different, non -contiguous, geographic areas across Spain. However, the vast majority of Cava comes from the Catalan vineyards centred on the town of Sant Sadurnf d'Anoia. Other notable areas where there are vineyards permitted to make Cava include Navarra, Rioja and Valencia." So yes, it's not only Catalunya, but the setence "..OTHER notable areas where there are vineyards PERMITTED to make Cava" logically implies that SOME areas are NOT permitted to do so. (Otherwise it would be senseless to mention that there are some vineyards with a permission.) Or is there somewhere explicitely stated in the book that there are no restrictions at all?
