What Does Russia’s Rebranded McDonald’s Look and Taste Like? | WSJ

Former McDonald’s restaurants reopened in Russia under a new name and with a new menu. Crowds of Russians visited a rebranded store in Moscow, many glad to find that the logo and many of the meals were very similar to the original American version. 80% of the Macdonalds ingredients for McDonald's in Russia were manufactured from russian 3rd party businesses. So they still have all the recipies for the food, so it will be the same as McDonald's.

McDonald's still makes profit on all the food regardless of where it's manufactured. There was already some of the restaurants that were franchised before McDonald's removed their name. The only difference now is that they are all franchised. But they still make profit on all the food in all of those franchises. They just don't own the physical restaurants anymore. But from what I understand they have the right to buy them back later on. So all this is is b******* McDonald's trying to look good making people think they pulled out completely. Nope they're still making a lot of money there from the food served that's how it works with their franchises. McDonald's looking like the goody goody corporation I'm surprised more is not spoken about this all they did was remove the brand names.

I think now there is wiggle room to adjust the recepites to make it healthier and taster. In Japan the taste of Macdonalds is not that great with its bare minimum burger. Still perfer freshness burger, wendy's or burger king over macdonalds.

This looks like a Russian gain/advantage. Anyone else starting a new business from scratch can never have the same advantages- A large chain of restaurants with trained staff & inventory, a big national reputation of being a known burger 🍔 joint, A business blueprint with business systems that are well proven to be money 💰 making. No one in the whole world- yet the Russian have it all & will just carry on where McDonald's left.

Not really a gain though, it’s just cashing in. What they get upfront now in terms of the network/logistics that McDonald’s put in place there, they’ll lose out in any future investment from companies in the west, whilst the rest of the word does and subsequently grows. Have you seen what happens to dictatorships that sieze/nationalise everything in one swift move? They get a lot upfront but no one to do business/invest because why would you spend billions in a place that could take it off you tomorrow?

I don't get the comments in here, is the taste being same as McD a good thing? Why not create your own taste the way how you like it? Why does it have to taste like McD? Agreed that McD lost, but they wanted out because of the war, they already knew that they were going to lose money and business, and they chose to exit and take the loss. I think people in this comment section are dumb. I mean, good for this company and that it tastes great, but dude, the people don't really have a choice where to eat anymore, except there. The only thing that Russia gained in this war is isolation and limitation in what you can eat. You lost diversity ya'll.
