Media coverage of Russian troops invading Ukraine is unfolding differently in Russia than in the U.S. Using maps and disinformation, many television programs are shaping public opinion by justifying Moscow’s decision to attack its neighbor. Photo composite: Sharon Shi

Haha but after sanctioning Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, North Korea and Russia, Americans still can’t see that it’s not the way to replace the government and make the leader of the country to resign - it’s only means to hurt ordinary people who don’t have any say in the government’s decisions or policies and that’s just inhumane. They should just stop pretending that they care about the ordinary folks because with all these sanctions they just make their lives just more measurable. Why can’t they see that the sanctions just don’t work?!

@Nunix with the skyrocketing prices of gas and oil the prices of pretty much everything are going to rise immensely increasing the inflation in most of the countries to the levels they cannot afford so it’s unclear who is suffering more here. Russia already had sanctions in 2014 and surprisingly they managed to build an army for this special operation. All these sanctions are temporary and soon they’ll be over.

What I have learned from observing wars for the past 50 years, is that every country has its own interpretation of reality which is reflected throughout their news media. When the US invaded the Middle East, we were bombarded with propaganda that reflected the country’s interest and excusing their invasion as a necessary to defeat “evil”, they said, when they were the invaders in a war that killed over a million people, hundreds of thousands woman and children whose faces were never shown in US media ( understandably, so). So, American and European invasion was promoted as good in the states ( cnn, msnbc,fox, etc.). Now that another country executes an invasion of its own, the news shifted to condemn the invaders, and show pictures of the victims, which they never did in Iraq or Afghanistan. So, yes the Russian people are watching the news their government wants to share with them, just as we watch the news that our government wants to share with us. “ believe half of what you see and nothing of what you hear”
@dharhard398

Not all media showed the US in a positive light. A lot of news channels and journalists disagreed with our position in the Middle East. It took a while because of 9/11 and the miseducation of American citizen. In Russia you could die or got to jail for reporting news that put the Russian government in bad light. It’s really not comparable.

There were point in history were Russian killed Ukrainians and sent Russian civilians to replace the numbers in order to gain control. We never tried to turn the Middle East into a US Territory. Also Russia was in the Middle East along with every industrialized country and they were brutal there than we were but how come no Russian outlets reported their actions in Middle East? If Putin invades Ukraine on the basis that it was historically part of Russia, does it give the right to the United Kingdom to bring back the British empire, or perhaps for Poland to once more include Lithuania, Ukraine and Belarus within its borders?
@Kay-lc4ku
@Kay-lc4ku 2 жыл бұрын
That is not the basis for the invasion, but it provides a historical context as to why some regions in Ukraine, namely the southeastern Donbas region (search for Donbas war, there is a documentary about it by french reporter Anne-Laure Bonnel & it is also well documented by UN, HRW & Amnesty Intl). If you want to go back in time to get an even better context, research Euromaidan 2013 protests, the pro maidan & anti maidan clashes, the Odessa 2014 massacre then the Donbas war that spanned 8 years. Search for Minsk agreements. I'd also suggest you search for these paramilitary battalions (azov, dnipro, aidar & donbas battalion). This should give you enough elements to pick today's conflict apart & understand part of what motivated Putin's decision. I don't know why the media isn't talking about Donbas or calling it a separatist movement, implying that it's a bunch of rebels but Donbas has a civilian population against whom the Kiev regime has declared war in 2014. Sorry I can't explain as it is long but I encourage you to look into it.

But people can't do anything about it ( I live in Russia, and I have only one thing in my head: when will this nightmare end. In addition, sanctions were imposed against us and much more.
