As a native Chongqing Citizen, I still appreciate what he has done for Chongqing. It was very reassuring seeing police cars parked every few kilometers in the city. The crackdown on organized crimes has its problems, but the city ended up being so much safer. It's like Harvey Dent in Batman got what he wanted but with questionable ends.

ElPocho DelMundo problem with Bo is he is to far left, ironically. You would think that’s good in a communist country but China is way more complicated than that. Inner political struggle is insane and in secrecy. This is the real game of thrones, you play, you win, or you die.

Bo Xilai was my personal favorite to take over after Hu Jintao, but unfortunately, y'all got Xi instead. That man is actively killing all the progress China has made in the last 30 years, and turning it into such a totalitarian state that I'm afraid of setting foot in China. This is after I planned to live and work in China, as my favorite culture well and truly is Chinese culture. Now I'm thinking Thailand, Vietnam, or Taiwan.

Exactly! The WSJ is supposedly a prestigious publication. So I always spend a few minutes to evaluate them. But it is always a disappointment. The WSJ painted him like a saint. But gloss over the fact that Hayward did mention about wealth hidden in foreign land. Mind you, it's not the communist party making the accusation. But an accomplice.
@woodherman47395 жыл бұрын
The way the narrator described Chongqing was quite ignorant. Chongqing is actually one of the wealthiest cities in China because it is one of the four municipalities of the country. The other three cities? Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanghai. The city also possesses great scenery, vacation spots, mountain range, and beautiful women. For a politician in China, it is a dream come true to reside in Chongqing because it is far away from the central government. Otherwise, good documentary.

And I totally agree that anyone should face charges in court whatever political figure he was when violations of laws were proven, not to mention a murder. Bo Xilai’s charisma and political rise & fall reminds me of Mark Antony. Xi Jingping certainly feels like an Octvatian; Huo Guofeng was a Pompey Magnus. Deng Xiaoping was like an economic Gaius Marius. Also, side note - the downfall of China’s leadership has always been the issue of succession. Multi generational planning has been a facet of Chinese culture, but it’s hard to sustain continuity when the younger generations begin to see what their counterparts across the world have access to.

Communist capitalism is the same all over no matter what the labels are. Problems anyone might have (like myself) is probably more local than authoritatively conceptual. The goal is 'no more war'. Story about his son has little to do with the overall power struggle. Everybody knows that rich kids in China waste millions inside China and abroad. Bo is a kind of neo-Maoist and this does not fit the party main Denguist orientation. Xi Jinping has a grief against Maoism because his family fell from grace during some purges. There is no place for Maoism, neo-Maoism or anything similar in today's China as they believe that China must still develop its capitalist system in order to withstand US ambitions on the country. Most of the cadres are probably anti-Communist, they just keep the party for harmony and stability reasons.

In a dictatorship regime, the correctness of a society relies on the correctness of the dictators. The dictators may do something right, and of course they can do things wrong, all depending on how the person is. So here's the problem, a person cannot always do all things right. So a better regime is for more important than a better leader. A better regime needs everybody in the society to act. China has a big step forward than other communist countries, as at least they have 7 or 9 leaders now.
