I've watches this movie 4 times in the past 2 days. First time I missed some and I caught it again. Then this morning I watched it on demand then it came on the channel I was on like an hour later. Would I be the first to say this movie moved me profoundly if not colmpletely changed my approach to religion. Irrfan truly informed his own life from his characters and roles. Each role he did helped him grow as a human being. He wasn't just a story teller or an actor. He explores the breadth and depth of human condition with his roles and lived 140+ lives in one short one. They say people who play others for a living are often deeply morally vacant. Irrfan wasn't that person compared to his peers. Other actors in Bollywood, used the medium of cinema or TV to profit, or gain influence and power. They became skilled at the craft but not empathy. Irrfan stands out among the few Indian stars because he grew wiser and appreciated what it truly means to be an ordinary human being undergoing the trials of life. You can see that when he speaks of Marion. This is as opposed to someone like Anupam Kher who spews very hateful views on the routine, but has done roles which challenge systems and extremism or subjugation otherwise. Other commercial actors have done cheesy, entertainment roles(no harm in that) but then what story are you telling, or how have you made your audience think and wonder while leaving a darkened theatre? You've and cannot truly be an actor if you've not learned from a role you've performed. And irrfan chose roles carefully. Through TV and film. He shone so bright, and he was also frustrated with TV and faced setbacks, and knew he had to recalibrate. Irrfan makes you want to sit with him and have him talk to you about everything he knows not just about acting and film making, but also living and navigating life.
