Apparently (true story) he gained the weight because his research indicated that birds eat worms. His first thought? A bird couldn't possibly eat a 400 000kg worm! When Christian arrived on set, he was surprised and slightly disheartened that there were no birds to be found. Undeterred, Mr. Bale proceeded to give a performance of a lifetime (which, in worm-years, is up to nine years).

@@cananary I think we have smart actors now. Like Adam Driver for example. However even during this era, you had films like Fight Club which contains similar themes about capitalism and how feel about their lives and in the interviews with the actors the only thing they ever talked about was how "crazy" it was, never really acknowledging the themes. Not to mention nowadays the media industry is way, way more commercial and saturated. Everyone's always trying to appeal to the masses so they have to vague and the really big projects they do don't give the actors much room to actually talk about layered meanings like this. Not that there aren't any more creatives who are witty and smart it's just that they aren't getting the funding to make what they want to make.

Christian is one of the rare character actors. He doesn’t approach a role as an actor playing a person; he immerses himself into becoming that person for the next several weeks or months. What he said about playing Batman was incredible, and I wish more actors / actresses thought that way. Just because you play a timeless part in a movie franchise doesn't mean you can't be a great character in a totally different film!

Also, being known for an iconic role is OK!
@spencerplummer80022 жыл бұрын
But what he said about having the skill to act around that is also very true. Like as much as I love him as an actor Ryan Reynolds will always be Deadpool his standard humor and delivery of how he speaks is what made Deadpool so great but that being said he would have to completely change the way he acts and speaks to make me think of something else.

I actually don't ever think of Christian Bale as a single role and he is maybe one of the few actors I feel that way about. He has been in so many really good movies and such a variety of roles that I can think of several.

Christian Bale & Gary Oldman - neither has been pigeon-holed into any particular role or genre and both are absolute masters at their craft
@Yepmyaccount2 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of it has to do with him having the ability to change his appearance so thoroughly for each role that a lot of other actors just don't have. Most actors look pretty much the same role to role, so it can ruin the immersion by your brain just acknowledging it's that actor instead of that character.

You know someone is a good actor when there isn't time to talk about films they've made like "Little Women", "Ford vs. Ferrari", "Equilibrium", "Reign of Fire", "The New World", "The Prestige" or "Hostiles". His ability to pick interesting material, and to turn in consistently excellent performances across an array of genres is unmistakable.

Christian Bale is absolutely one of the greatest actors of our generation. He’s such a chameleon, and the dedication to his craft is on another level. Too bad they skipped The Prestige b/c it’s one of my favorite films of his.

He's up there with Brando and has perhaps proven himself almost as good as Day-Lewis. He still might transcend to those heights. I wouldn't be suprised if he has it in him.

Great shout. Its, by some distance, my favourite Nolan movie. The chemistry between the two leads is excellent, however it's the twist with regards "The Great Dantes" trick that really left an impression. It's truly macabre, and almost nudges the film into Horror territory. Imagine doing that to yourself, literally, night after night, just for plaudits.
