I live in nyc. Guess what. My kids get not more than 15 min of cartoon time daily. The rest of the time I FORCE them to play in “dirt”, draw, do stupid things, hit their knees, ride bike, learn things etc. Those who say you learn online. Your not. You can’t learn anything online. It’s damaging to your brain.

Imagine a company like Meta pitching this as "new" when I've been in social VR (VRChat and NeosVR) for over 3,000 hours since Jan 2019. We've had avatars with legs all that time. And I've had fully tracked legs for dancing since 2020. Wouldn't ever spend 24 hours in VR or work or sleep in it, but I regularly go up to 7-8 hours in VR with friends who can't meet irl because we're all over the world.

I can see the value (to the tech companies) of creating the next Facebook using AR/VR technology. It can change things but I think it's definitely over hyped. Many people resort to things when they feel lonely. Imagine it being so addicting because the moment you take off your AR glasses or VR headsets, you remember you felt isolated without them, so you put them back on. People will loose their sense of who they are for a fake virtual world.

that's how I felt when I was gaming for months straight during summer vacations lol I walked out my door and felt so weird being outside in the real world I had developed actual anxiety to the point I was struggling actually walking outside my front door. Afraid of being judged by other people, I felt so out of place and had struggle communicating with real human beings. It took me a month to adjust to reality again. Virtual reality is great but it should be looked at as a fun tool/toy to play with for a little bit not as a escape or full integration to your life. More like a watch you can wear/use when necessary but not rely or depend on.

Idea of the metaverse comes from Snowcrash, which was a novel published in 1992, which was the first literary mention of a metaverse, and the first use of the word avatar in a novel to describe a character in virtual reality. The Metaverse in Snowcrash was created by a single corporation, and was built on top of network infrastructure built by the same corporation. Snowcrash was inspired by earlier cyberpunk fiction, such was that written by William Gibson, who was the first to use the terms "cyberspace" and "the matrix" to describe a virtual reality setting. Ready Player One simply ripped these ideas off.

the issue is that they have a "thing" for every generation. and most of the people of every generation are falling for that "thing" instead of trying to find the real purpose of why we are here. it is easy to pick on the next generation and pin point what will doom them/their times but we kinda forget that we also have our own things that doomed our generation/the generations of the ones before us. Couple of examples be it Alcohol, music , partying, drugs, gaming, pornography, movies, TV's, smartphones etc. (if you think about it even older phones are just steps to get towards the meta verse... you don't have to leave your house and actually meet the person /knock on their door and check on them in real life... you could just hit a number and he/she will answer and its all virtual/unreal life.) we need to figure out why we are here. how did we get here and what is our purpose.

Literally it was their books, their “schoolwork”, and their “recreational device”. They played games, streamed, and surfed from their parents device. This was almost 10 years ago now. You could not possibly convince me that this generation has a single chance of rejection of the metaverse. Literally it is more satisfying, more functional, and more immersive than their actual lives, which essentially are spent mostly on social media and phones already. It is no surprise at all that this will become the cafe, bar, restaurant, theater etc for everyone under a certain age. They already have made it illegal to gather with their friends or travel in the largest nations on earth. They legally cannot socialize. How could this go any other way? With both lawmakers and police and technocrats all coming together to create their Orwellian brave new world. @cj it 100% can be more dangerous . To be no more dangerous means there will be no different consequences to this. The immersiveness can have extreme psychological effects. At least with phones we can take pictures of the real world and our actual lives, and planning things we still have to physically go places to really hang out and go to shows. This will create an alternate reality that people enjoy and feel safe, all the time. They no longer need to leave the house as everything can be delivered nowadays. Any real person to person interaction will become overwhelming to many. It's not as concerning for adults, but when younger and younger kids get into it, that becomes the world they know. Their brain is developing while they experience these things and meeting friends in this vs a classroom is going to affect certain parts of the brain. This may be an extreme case to assume this magnitude of transition will happen, but it has to at least be considered

If you really think about it, it's not that much different. Majority of the people just don't do that much exciting stuff in real life. We get one or two memorable moments a month and the rest of the time is just either working, maybe drinking or killing time in front of tv, pc or phone. This technology can make your uneventful free time feel much more exciting.

I was really lonely in real life but as soon as I got my oculus last year I finally feel like I have purpose. It allowed me to actually be able to pursue a KZbin career. It’s giving me an opportunity to become a famous artist through nft. I can now play the games from all the way back when I was 5 years old such as midnight club and Mario kart, I can just lay down and hop on my headset and play call of duty. It’s allowing me to be able to change my life and have a purpose I’m going to stay weary of metas metaverse but the metaverse in general is very much not going to make you feel lonely, and I feel like if the person that made this video played vr chat and rec room her opinion would be different because that’s where everyone actually is. There’s games like gorrilla tag and gun raiders that makes this whole thing really feel like a metaverse you have every right to feel like this and to keep yourself safe I think it’s better that way but I would give it a chance.

Very true statement bro. So many people suffer around the world, suffering which could easily be solved with all this extra money. Tech like metaverse will weaken the focus of many young people who could acc make a difference in the world. Lot of potential may be lost . But there may be many benefits of this technology, it does seem very broad. Hard to tell at this point. I dont think it's all bad

@@GuiPurri so not only do I have my own problems to deal with, and playing games or any form of it helps me escape those problems and lets me relax but it's my job to also help those in need? I mean yeah it's awful what they have to go through but i don't have the money or time to help and the very little time I do have i want to spend it relaxing my state of mind. I also don't understand how companies that are in the gaming business, social media, or film business should help those in needs. You should be looking towards the government to do that. They literally waste trillions of dollars on nothing but yes companies are at fault for poverty lol
