SWFL Eagles_More Survival Lessons With Two Prey~H & M Attempt Steals~E9 Aggressive 04-18-17

M15 delivers a fish and a squirrel to the nest. Harriet & M15 are in the nest tree and nest while E9 works on both prey. Both H & M approach E9 several times attempting steals of the food and are met with E9's protective measures to keep his food - mantling, vocalizing, striking out and even biting and holding M15's chest feathers. After E9 jumps at Harriet, she feeds him some bites from the partial fish she took. And as quick as E9 went at H, he goes back over to the squirrel to finish that before it too is stolen. E9 finishes the squirrel himself, swallowing a large part in one gulp.

Best parents in the world! Harriet has proven herself amazing over the years even when alone. M15 has completely won me over as an amazing mate for her and parent for their offspring. (Not that he didn't do well last year, but he sure has developed as well.) M15 was always so sneaky and sly when he first came on he scene. Those lessons sure are being passed on to E9. Thanks for sharing this extremely informative interaction. As others have said, the cams are not nearly as reliable our human nest mom. Thanks so much for sharing.

What a great provider M15 is! He leaves and quickly returns with more food. He's got great survival skills. Hopefully, he's passed those genes onto E9. E9 can tell the difference in eating a fish and a squirrel. Squirrel meat doesn't come off the bone like fish does. He has to tug and pull really hard to get the meat.

Hello this is Shirley from South Mississippi. I have a question. Mrs Harriet is such a wonderful mommy do you know how many baby Eaglets she has raised. It's easy to see her babies love her and respect her. From what I've read once the young leave the nest they don't come back. But I've seen two generations of hers to come visit. An older one came to help with the nest. Also is this M first baby with Harriet. Again thank you from my heart for sharing your beautiful work with us. Everyday when the nurse and therapist come by they both ask about precious E9. I always show them the video of yours for the day. Can't wait for the next one. Job wonderfully done my friend.

Crickkett, E9 is right on target as far as development. They are full grown at 12 weeks of age. Bald eagles are mature at five years and will start a family then.
