Even in the 9th inning, with the game on the line, Harry just kept up with all of the name-dropping just as though it was the 2nd or 4th inning. Manager Bob Lemon, about 15 months after this, would lead the Yankees to the World Series championship after being fired by the Sox. Catcher Brian Downing would get traded to the Angels and become a star. The good old days when the bullpens were down the left and right field lines. Outfielders had to deal with 2 bullpen mounds down each line when they were running after balls.

Anyone else notice that organist Nancy Faust didn't play "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" immediately after this White Sox victory? That would change later that month.

Of course, keenly, I remember some of the classic "Comiskey Park" stuff from the Sox games on Channel 44 telecasts in that 1977 year.... 1. The post-game firework shows. They were cheesy (lots of dead time sometimes between shell blasts) but they were very boomy (loud of course), especially in the grand finales. 2. The exploding scoreboard with the hoots and hollering and even more fireworks...... 3. Nancy Faust on the organ as always. 4. And how about that Harry Caray leading it all---play by play announcer and leader of the 7th inning stretch. 5. And of course, Bill Veeck putting it all together.

Wow … Channel 44. We had it on cable in suburban Chicago, but it flipped to 32 in … 1980? I didn’t see another white-Sox game on TV until 1991 when we got sports-channel. My dad was a Sox-fan and we’d watch these games together when I was little. Awesome. ☮️

Great footage as any kind of video from the 77 regular season, regardless of team is a rare item. The Red Sox wearing the pullover-sansabelt combo they would ditch after the 78 season. Harry Caray I have to say, proves why I didn't care for him as an announcer because in a tense situation with the game on the line you should NOT be breaking the rhythm by constantly name-dropping who's at the game. That is just stupid. People got on Phil Rizzuto for doing birthday greetings, but he never stopped to do that with the game on the line.

@epaddon let's agree to disagree. You had to be a White Sox fan at the time (or in general, a fan of either team in town) to enjoy Harry Caray. But i will say this...Caray, Ruzzito, Scully, even Ken Harrelson are great announcers and are not as bland as the current crop of announcers today in baseball

@@tubesocksbrigade3031 ur right, I'm not a sox or cubs fan, I'm a baseball fan n I go back to the late 60's, baseball today stinks 4 me, unwatchable, strikeouts, launch angles, exit velo, bat flips openers, replay n politics, the announcers r simply PUTRID pathetic, give me Harry, peirsol,Rizzutto, white,Messer,Bob Murphy,Harry Kala's,the Nbc crew,Garagiola,Kubek, and many of the others I missed, give me the 70's,80's even the early 90's baseball, baseball was the last sport 2 be destroyed, forget basketball, they destroyed that 25 years ago, but baseball now is a joke,n the announcers are embarrassing, politicly correct, they hype every play, routine fly balls are homeruns that they hype, it's pathetic, pure n simple and a shame!

Amazing what's in stored for the people in this video. Less than a year later, the manager of the White Sox will be fired, and then a few weeks later be asked to lead the Yankees to the world champion. Six years after Freddie Lynn singles, he'll come back to Comiskey Park to set history.

In 1976, the White Sox win-loss record was very lousy because the roster wore shorts exposing their bony knees. When 1977 kicked in, the South Side Hitmen showed up and woke up big time. What a difference a year makes!
