WSPR Experiment with an HCLW-20 Antenna

In this video, Rob Carroll (KN4RHI) experiments with WSPR (Weak Signal Propagation Reporter) with his HCLW-20* antenna.
*Highly Compromised Long Wire antenna is Rob's tongue-in-cheek designation of this makeshift antenna located only 10' off the ground.

Ref: aluminum attic. I designed and built (partially 'had built') our house. As a ham since the 1970s, one of my design guidelines was to ensure that the house was as 'RF transparent' as feasible. I can received GPS quite easily inside the house, and multiple gadgets do exactly that. The only thing I've not been able to control is RF noise, as we have too many gadgets with switching power supplies. So SWL sometimes needs to be done outside. :-)

Hi Bob, great presentation. It would be great to read of further comparisons. I am especially interested in antenna comparisons. My design goal is the ability to support the Hurricane Watch Net, communicate with my family, and support net operations on 20 meters. I wonder what antenna(s) you have settled on for your QTH? Worth explicitly mentioning that the computer software control of the transceiver presumes that the transceiver offers a 'CAT' connection for the PC. Not everyone would have modern radio equipment that offers these features, so these band-hopping and radio / antenna tuner control (and so on) is not directly and immediately possible.

Re: "km/W" Considering it's the inverse square law (certainly *not* a linear relationship between power and distance) , this 'kilometers-per-watt' parameter is quite-perfectly indefensible.
