Is there a substitute for lye in soap making.

All soap has lye. Lye is needed to saponify the oils and butters and is a required ingredient for soap making. If you are worried about handling the lye, you can make melt and pour soap instead of cold process soap. Melt and pour soap already has the lye incorporated making it much easier to handle.

Hi, we recommend using 3-5% goats milk powder so this would be about 1.65 to 2.75 ounces for your 55 ounce recipe.
