Gwen Sommers was a "looker". She's infamously remembered for uttering the words "OH SHIT", during a news update in the early 80's, when of course, she thought the camera wasn't on...

Wow - it's a flashback. I had forgotten about the "internationally reknowned" Roger Whitaker commercial. They ran that segment a lot back then. Some guy up the street from me bought the 8 track even though he had no idea who Roger was. He just thought it would be good. Channel 17 also used to promote Slim Whitman commercials. Of course a few years before they had the "Future Shock" show with James Brown.

Back in those days, when you ran a B/W movie, the color-burst was turned off on the film chain, so the recording breaks up every time it goes from the color slide to the movie.

This was when TBS was great. Since it turned into a cable only network, I seldom watch it.

November 4, 1979 was the date this was recorded. The beginning of the 444 day Iranian Hostage Crisis.
@Rocket_scientist_888 жыл бұрын
I also checked the date of the football games, this was indeed Nov. 4, 1979. Did not know this was the start of the Iranian Hostage Crisis - that was just taking place as this aired. Nice catch!

According to Wiki WTBS "signed on" Nov 10. There was an existing WTBS licensed in MA prior to Nov 10. This vid must have been made before channel went "Super".

Did the "channel 17" references air on the satellite feed then?
@RadioChief525 жыл бұрын
The early cable systems carried channel 17 either off the air (large antennas) or by microwave from one town to the next. This was before satellite.
@sillygoose6354 жыл бұрын
@@RadioChief52 um, no, this is well after satellite.
@RustyMuck4 жыл бұрын
Dick Johnson WTBS was relayed directly on the satellite feed until 1981, when a TBS feed without the 17 references was launched.
