So, the season is over and - coming from someone who has loved the Mangas for over 20 years - Arlong was just perfect. I'm so glad they won't be going for goofy, CGI-generated, larger-than-life characters. Arlong was still super intimidating and great and this makes it so much more relatable.

Gotta say that I was blown away by the Arlong presentation. I think using prosthetics and makeup in order to not restrict any real-life interaction was a great choice and the delivery was top notch. When I imagine a 2.6m CGI dude in the otherwise practical-effects-heavy show, I think there'd have been a 95% chance of it just not looking right. Props to everyone involved there!

I think they could have done something with the costume, like pads under the shoulders, but I'm sure we'll have a scene where he picks something huge up with ease to show his strength and give him more intimidation factor. I'm more worried the amount of make-up they gave him will make it hard for him to act.

My friends always recommend to watch One Piece, but never got around to it. But as someone who has never seen the series, this movie looks amazing! The characters don't look or act cheesy for a live-action anime adaption and Arlong looks intense no matter what size he should be, just saying. Everything looks natural and not so over the top. Can't wait to see the movie!

Yeah considering they would've spent most of the CGI budget on Luffy's stretching I doubt they had enough for Arlong but hopefully if this seasom does well they'll have a bigger budget for S2 since they'll have to CGI Chopper and Crocodiles devil fruits along with other devilfruit users who show up in Alabasta

The actor did a fine job as Arlong, but it was weird first seeing Arlong and he is this short guy. It's been a long time since I watched One Piece, so I was going off of memory, but it did jump out at me at how short Arlong was, I started thinking to myself "wait, was he always that short, can't be!!" lol. But he portrayed Arlong great, and at the end that is what matters most. Kind of like Nami, actress did a great job with her, but she seemed shorter than Nami(not as big a difference like Arlong, so never was a big deal), and I never cared breast size, Japanese manga & anime always go to absurd sizes when draw breast size, and I don't remember them being that big in the beginning anyway, I think they kept getting bigger as the anime went on lol.

The funny thing is that if you look closely in the trailer Arlong actually appears to be very tall But he’s missing that bulk and the fact that the make up has his head looking a little too big for his body is not helping matters So in my opinion If they had beefed him up a little through prosthetics or cgi it would have made his appearance a little more digestible But at the same time the director might have a reason, maybe they wanted his actor to be able to move a little more agile for the fight scenes who knows? Plus Oda must have green lit it too

Considering the budget per episode is almost 15m. I think they can add a bit of cg where its really needed. I mean thats GOT level budget. I get that most of the budget went to sets and trying to get the CG for all the attacks and the fantasy powers to look good. But they could have spared a little to give arlong at least a buffer appearance

There are plenty of tall body builder types who would love the chance to play Arlong. You could get a giant sumo guy like Akebono to play Jinbe. There are lots of options. Don't choose a skinny little guy to play a massive fishman.

I liked the enited anime, and I didn't mind the way arlong looked too much, but the one thing I found lag luster about the entire fight with Arlong, was the fact that Luffy wasn't bitten once, we did get a glimpse at how Arlong renew his own teeth, but it wasn't used again, not to mention that the badass elbow was left out, same with the sawbladeteeth boxing gloves. that entire scene was cut out. Lastly with the epic gumo gumo no Stamp that broke the park, I would have loved to see that Luffy would have been bitten there too. Because it would make everything more relatable also showing us that Luffy would have been more human too, other than that, I enjoyed the entire series. Loved your video and agree with it too.

It's unfortunate that Arlong couldn't be taller without CGI or having another actor that is just taller than Inaki. Inaki (Luffy's actor) is 6'1'' already while McKinely (Arlong's actor) is the same height as him. It may have turned out better if Inaki was short as Luffy (5'7''). It comes down to the actor's potential as Arlong to be intimidating, so I'll reserve my judgement to when I see his acting

If you have flaws which you cannot overcome (the height of the actor is not a flaw, but since Net is copying the original you have to make character bulky), then distract attention to something else. Dang if height is a big issue with people then they'll probably hate the other characters of One Piece, when they are portrayed in the series too. Everyone is hating on Arlong's height but not Garp's height? Garp is like 9 1/2 ft tall. Gol D. Roger 9ft. White Beard is like 21 ft. Plus, Sakazuki is also like 7 or 8 feet tall right? Then you got Kaido, King, Queen, Jack. Big Mom, Katakuri, Cracker. All whom are well over 9 feet tall too.

It might work in the context of this Arlong has been stationary for 8 years hiding out in Cocoyashi thus, in a way, letting himself go. Even Kuro, who drove Luffy to exhaustion, admitted to being out of practice. It further drove the point of how the Straw Hat Pirates were not ready for the New World.

Hmm not sure, I don't think CGI would have been any better. Would have probably cost too much so they would probably have to reduce the amount of screen time for the character. Also when a character is fully CG next to a real human actors your brain picks up on the difference and it kinda pulls you out of the scene. The other option is using perspective like lord of the rings with Gandalf and the hobbits but that is probably a non starter for this where the characters are interacting in close up fight scenes.

As far as Arlong goes, I do think he looks a bit thin and actually kind of pale, like he doesn't eat? Then again, real actors don't have the exaggerated proportions of One Piece. Also his hair seemed less curly than it is in the anime? Again probably a stylistic choice out of practicality, especially if they have the underwater scenes, it would be hard to keep a wig looking the same after being underwater for long periods of time

I think considering the show is just starting out on it's first season it was better to go conservative. They did a great job, they set a low standard for what to expect while still giving the fans hope for what's to come. But as long as season 1 does well the hope would be I assume their budget would grow by the time they need to get to the Grand Line. I think people forget the Gran Blue was just the start and realistically was the weakest part animation wise in One Piece. The Live Action is just starting out too trying to get its foothold. They have a budget sure but no record of performance where they could blow a huge budget on CGI everything. They thankfully still have time to build a track record before they get to anything insane. But I think the fact they're adapting it even this well is a great sign of what's to come. They're clearly putting great thought into making sure they get the details right and setting up future seasons, they're also making good casting decisions.

Yeaah... that's going to be REALLY hard to pull off. There are some BIG fucking men and women in One Piece. Big Mom is massive, Whitebeard himself was what? 7 feet fucking tall? Nico Robin is tall, Boa Hancock is also pretty fucking tall, too! There are some big characters both tall and wide in One Piece. That's definitely going to be challenging to pull off without CGI/digital sculpting/animating.

I hate the excuse that it's unrealistic to make a character so tall. No, they don't need to do it for ALL the characters nor do they need to go with that big of a contrast. They should have tried it with Arlong, making him just a foot taller could've gone a long way. He's not human, and it would make him that much more imposing. As it stands. This guy just looks like real Arlong's henchman. His overall design is weak.

u missed out the size of arlongs back, if he had a bigger back his shoulders wldnt look out of proportion to his bloody head all these youtubers that defended this live action just want to be on odas good books, and the nose look more like whiskers at the end than a sharp razor like nose which he even use that as a weapon, i can promise you people that defend this didnt watch the anime of this arc when it was first released.....
