Both him and Kubica had if not the biggest what ifs and definitely hurts you. Felipe wasn't the same Ferocious man he was eversince his accident in 2009 Hungary. @jtm19793 жыл бұрын
@Stealth Leopard lol its not that simple. Schumacher was clearly the no1 driver and the focus was on him and the same thing was with Alonso, Felipe Fernando is faster than you, do you copy? Räikkönen and Massa were treated equally in 2007, and Räikkonen beat Massa even though he was new to the team. 2018 they focused more on Massa car was developed more to Massa than Raikkonen which was a mistake. Same thing happened 2009 and right after Massa hurt they focused on Kimi and he started to deliver like win in spa with crappy Ferrari of 2009. Massa is great but not on Räikkonen's level. Also after 2009 accident, Massa was never the same and the favouring of Alonso didnt help. Its just the fact that Räikkönen was the fastest driver of 2000's when he had a car he wanted. The problem with him is that he is not into politics and his car setup window is bit narrow. Also he didnt put effort like other top drivers did, to Kimi it was and it is more like hobby. Sometimes he drinked two weeks between races while Massa was training on simulator lol. Räikkönen is true legend :)

We were practically first in line near the start of the paddock walk, he came and said "hi", went to sign an autograph but realised he didn't bring a pen. I gave him mine since I had a spare, so he thanked me, signed my program book, then continued on. About 5 minutes later he came back to return it, went to sign my book again; I reminded him it was ok since he already had signed it - to which he replied, "Is OK!", signed it again, returned my pen, thanked me and off he went. Very humbling experience - he certainly earned my respect. It's a real shame he's no longer in the sport.

Being a Br and having grown counting the weeks for F1 Sundays, I'm gonna leave my 2 cents: For me it felt like after the astounding F2004 Ferrari always managed to lose the championship by some mishap. Something would go wrong, usually a bone headed strategy decision, that would cost them the trophy in the end. That was the case with the 2008 season. Sure, Massa could've driven so great that Hungary and Singapore wouldn't matter but in the end those wins cost him the championship, specially the Singapore incident. (oh, and no, Massa didn't carried half the pit crew with him. Ferrari told him it was ok and there he went. Ferrari was the first team to test the "traffic light" pit system, that year, and the guy who operated it gave Massa the green light before the gas hose was disconnected. If it was still the "lollipop system", Massa would have a WDC). After that, for me I never thought it was the accident. I guess the "Fernando is faster than you" messed with his mentality. He felt that very very deeply. He felt betrayed. Wronged. Like it's on the video, he was leading the championship, Ferrari should've prioritized him (in his point of view). Or at least not interfered. Not having a message called in his radio. And Ferrari never could provide 2 great cars again. And Alonso was not the good team guy he was used to driving alongside Räikkönen and Schumi. He was good after the accident, just not after the message. He outperformed the Williams all those years he was there but at the end he realized he wouldn't have another chance to win it so he left. Oh, and he went back for Williams because they had a deal with Martini and being an alcoholic beverage they needed a senior driver to be with Stroll. It kinda was in the contract.

Recently, bernie ecclestone admitted they should have invalidated the result of Singapore 2008, but they didnt do it cause it would have made for bad pr. So massa should have been champion that year

it wasn't charlie, he passed away long ago, it was bernie ecclestone who admited when asked who was better, schumacher or hamilton, then he said hamilton was lucky and that singapore should had been cancelled and the results of that grand prix nullified.

I think I say this for most Brazilians here, but Felipe Massa, Rubinho Barrichello and Ayrton Senna are all childhood heroes, and all are fabulous people on and off the track. Massa specifically was my hero back in F1 and at Stock Car Racing. Obrigado Felipe

My favourite driver till this day, he was the reason I started watching F1 in 2006 as a 5 year old and made me in love with Ferrari rather than Schumacher believe it or not lol. He was an absolute hero and such a likable character. Brazilians are so lucky to have had this man representing them for the best part of 15 years. Obrigado Felipe 💚💛💙

This one hurts. Massa was an amazing talent who showed amazing speed! I honestly think that Felipe Massa should have won the 2008 world title. Also THAT crash in 2009 is a crash that I don’t think he ever recovered from. We love you Felipe!

Damn, Josh really said that more people should watch Stock Car, and I can't say that I disagree. Too bad that Brazil's racing scene has been in a (sort of) downward spiral since Massa. You guys should see what other categories we run around here: we race tractor-trailers (Copa Truck) and now we're getting our own FIA-sanctioned formula-class category.

Somehow I happened to be present at some of the key moments of Massa's career. I was at *that* 2008 Belgian Grand Prix. It was so frustrating, it felt like what was a fantastic race was being ripped away from us spectators. From that moment on I cheered for Hamilton to win the championship. In hindsight of course I wish that Massa had won it and Sir Lewis had one fewer championship now, but honestly Hamilton deserved it more in 2008. I was also at *that* 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix. Personally I don't feel that his accident was necessarily the thing that broke him, I feel it was his crushing loss of the championship at Brazil the year before. The first half of 2009, before the accident, Massa was already just a shadow of his former self. True the Ferrari was a dog that year, but Massa also looked uninspired and showed none of his talent to outperform the car. The accident didn't help matters of course, nor did Ferrari's ever increasing focus on Alonso in the following years.

I was at Singapore 2008, hoping for a Massa win, so that pit incident was crushing. Despite that setback, throughout that whole season it just never felt like Massa had it together, but at least it was a tussle between several drivers and teams so it was gripping to the end.
@emanuell59263 жыл бұрын
That’s true, Massa lacks talent, wasn’t a very gifted driver, Ferrari in the last couple of years has frequently bet on the wrong horse, except for Alonso. Räikkönens WDC was pure luck

That summing up is probably the best you've ever done. It was a champions drive. A year I think many drivers dream of having.

He's one of my heroes and while yes he didn't went on to win a title (narrowly missing out instead), he will always be world champion in my heart and he's one of the reason why I got into F1 in the first place and the way he responded to that set back at Hungary (a race he deserve to win) and then went on to dominate Europe made me in awe as a 5-6 year old kid who was just a Ferrari fan at that point due to it being a red car but that race in Europe convinced me to support Felipe until his retirement even if he didn't win again after Brazil 2008. Obrigado Felipe ❤️

It broke my heart when Massa didn't win that title. It seemed obvious that Hamilton was going to go on to win a lot of titles, so I wanted Massa to have just that one. It was painful to see.

Somewhere there's an alternate universe where Massa won in 2008, Alonso won in 2012, and Michael Shoemacher mearly broke his leg skiing. I bet it's nice there.

Massa was my hero when I started following F1 back in 2008 .. Losing that title was heart breaking and that life-threatening head injury limited his abilities. Too bad he never achieved the heights he was destined to reach, but I still love him and regard him as one of my heroes of the sport ❤️
@ImBarryScottCSS3 жыл бұрын
Massa got exactly what he deserved in terms of accolades. He was a great driver, just not quite champion material, between Alonso, Raikkonen and Hamilton he was always just a half step behind in terms of ability. I remember him fondly as a great driver who brought a lot to the sport but the fans talking about championships are the same people who would have 5 champions a year and 50 cars on the grid.
@lucas_13.3 жыл бұрын
can't tell he is beneath the level of other one time champions like Rosberg, Button and even Villeneuve. The difference between him and these guys is that they made the most of their biggest chance, and Felipe couldn't make it in his first that ended up being his last
