The Original Highlander film is an absolute classic. An immortal sword fighting throughout time against other immortals for "The Prize" and the only way they can die is by decapitation, then transferring their lightning like power to the winner, it's a fantastic concept for a 1980s fantasy/action film. Sean Connery was great as the mentor character to Conner Macleod, and the Queen soundtrack was the cherry on top. The Highlander TV series was great also, with the lead character of Duncan Macleod, that returned in the film "Highlander Endgame" along side an older looking Conner Macleod, and its easily one of the best sequels along with "Highlander 3" . But let's just hope that if they do reboot the franchise, they do it right, and have it made by people who actually understood what the Original Highlander great.👍

Honestly after the original film, the only sequels I have the stomach for is the anime one, the setting is great, as it take us from the distant past, to the far post apocalyptic future, something that was never done in any other Highlander film (I do not count the Quckening as a Highlander film). In addition the animation is of godlike quality, the director is Yoshiaki Kawajiri, which other works include the Ninja Scroll film, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust and others (as a director) and as animator in pretty much every Madhouse studio (which explains the high animation quality of the film) production to this day as an animator. Most people who do a Highlander retrospective tend to overlook the animated film for some reason, which is both surprising and a shame.

Wished the fight scene between the Kirgan in Wall Street scene was still available for the Directors cut. Sad that it wasn’t. Although these days, maybe they could CGI the characters, DEH them and replace the sequins. I know it cost a crap load of money and may not actually be worth it but it would just be nice to see.

I wish the franchise more or less stuck to the original mythology. We see very few immortals, they don't necessarily have some outside force preventing them from fighting on holy ground but a sacred tradition that no immortal would ever break, The Quickening is the force they possess as immortals and lets them commune with animals to some extent, when an immortal is born it's a major event, and in modern times it's not easy to get away with decapitating someone in public. It's so much more interesting than the later versions
@ChaseSchleich10 ай бұрын
The problem with Highlander was the story not being thought through enough. There was enough of a story there to get through one film, but then there was nowhere else to go with it. If it were to get remade today, I'd split the first film up into a trilogy. We'd be able to spend more time in the past, exploring the lives of the immortals and also having a lot more immortals throughout the story. Each film would have its own big bad that the lead would need to defeat while the Kurgan would be the Thanos of the trilogy, slicing his way through multiple immortals in the lead up to the final showdown at the end of the third film. There'd also need to be a lot more backstory to answer questions about the immortals. Are they all born in the same time period (if there can only be one, then they have to stop being born eventually)? How did they become immortal? Where's the lore of "the prize" come from? What happens when one immortal kills another? There's a lot that can be covered to fill out multiple films. You just can't have the final battle until the final movie because that's where the story ends unless someone can actually come up with good sequel ideas when there's only one immortal left in the world. Having more be born after one wins the prize is pretty stupid so there's really nowhere to go.

I love the series more than the movies. My biggest complaint is, how do Immortals know there is a finite number of their kind, thus allowing there to be a time when the final two will fight it out? There's no mention of becoming Immortal being a clan curse that is past down through generations, nor is there any mention of the "curse" eventually fading out after "x" number of generations. Being immortal is just something that happens but there's no explanation as to how, why, who and for how long.

I'm quite sure that a Highlander remake starring Henry ("one expression is all I need, thanks") Cavill would be at least good as the remake of Conan starring Jason ("look my shirt's off again") Momoa.

The movies bloody battle scenes were filmed in Scotland, during freezing rain and even snow, despite the springtime shoot. Er... speaking from Scotland, freezing rain and snow *is* our springtime. We get maybe five good days of weather per year. And that's not five days in a row. It's an hour here, a few minutes there, all added up. 12 degrees C and a light drizzle is sunbathing weather here.

I love this film, my parents introduced me to this film. One thing sticks out now in the 2020s, is the cop who goes on, and on, and on about "Nash cruising for ass"... The guy is clearly himself, confused and questioning and channelling this into his self inflicted shame.

While I love Highlander as it is, and can't picture anyone else in the titular role - I still would like to visit the alternate universe where Buckaroo Bonzai squared off against Rawhide ;)
