I loved him in Glory. His baby face and diffident expressions were perfect. It reminded the viewer that many who served in the Civil War were barely out of puberty. And probably most of them would have felt completely lost trying to lead like Colonel Shaw had to.

Great analysis, it’s rather interesting what you said about his appearance in Ladyhawke, because Ladyhawke is my favorite movie in the whole wide world, I will admit that Ferris Buellers day off is by far and away a superior movie, but Ladyhawke is still my favorite even if Mr. Broderick can’t keep to one accent and somehow manages to squeeze in at least five different ones on a sliding scale of “High British” to his natural New Yorker, but his chemistry with the other actors I always felt looks natural and genuine.
@efan2012
@efan2012 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. It's not a super favorite of mine but Ladyhawke is SO Much better than what this dude claimed it was. He must hate fantasy movies or something. I honestly wouldn't say he was miscast at all he fit the role perfectly. He had great chemistry with everyone especially Leo McKern and Hauer and nailed the comedic one liners and scenes perfectly. You grow to love him as much as you root for Hauer to kill the villain at the end. Matthew's one fault is that his voice was terrible but that was a fault of them not prepping him properly. If they had gotten an accent coach or teacher he wouldn't have been so odd with the voice. That's the one fault I blame on Donner; he shoulda done better. It was a huge moment for Broderick as his name was front and center they should have prepped him propperly.

My perceptions of Matt are colored by the fact that he and I are almost exactly the same age. Although, for good and for bad, we don't have much more in common. Perhaps this is why I loved "Election" so much. Among many other things, it is a great examination of middle-aged angst.
@casioak1683
@casioak1683 2 жыл бұрын
Oh yes! Now I'm 27 and I can feel the angst that character of Mr. McAllister felt in the "Election". And it pokes at reality, when people like Tracy and Paul do exist in real life.. and people like Tracy do everything so they are on top of society and never get caught for all the troubles she caused while genuine but naive people like Paul gets nothing. It's just how real life works, it's unfair. Although McAllister was a bit of a jerk though. Yes he is right about Tracy. But cheating on your wife is also not morally white either lol

If he was truly sorry for causing the death of those 2 women, the very least he could have done would have been to have compensated their family, pay for their funerals and expenses at the very least but he did nothing, he just pissed of home and never looked back. That's why a lot of people never forgave him for it. It just looked like he didn't give a shit about the 2 lives he took and the family he destroyed. The guys a millionaire several times over, it would have been peanuts for him to at least make that gesture.
@efan2012
@efan2012 2 жыл бұрын
He passed the point of no return in terms of awfulness and cowardisim by standing the brother up when he wanted to meet with him about it 20 years ago. All the guy wanted to do was to meet him and talk to him just to find out what truly happened, and Broderick didn't even have no courage for that. He's not done anything for charity to make up for it, and he went out and did that car ad in the Super Bowl which was in bad taste. He got away with it. I've lost all respect for the dude personally over that which sucks because I loved him as a kid he was one of my favorite actors back then. I hope the accident and the guilt eats him up every day because when his time comes he won't be able to run from it anymore.

@@efan2012 Great post Tyler, if I'd have caused the death of someone in a car accident, I'd want to meet up with the family just to give them some closure and to explain to them what happened and to apologise, just to show some resect. It won't bring their loved ones back but hell, at least let the family see that you're truly regretful for it. I was the same with MB, I loved him when I was younger, I enjoyed most of the things I saw him in but I lost all respect for the man after all this, he took the lives of 2 people, changed a family forever and then just ran off and wants to pretend like nothing ever happened. That's just low. Like you say, he's never even tried to make amends, how are you meant to respect someone like that?

@@Octobre1986 The guy narrating clearly didn't watch the film. It was the opposite of "fun". Incredibly moving and heart breaking film. I'll never forget it.

Godzilla was the first movie to make me cry as a kid, Ive always loved reptiles and as my first Godzilla movie I didn't know what was wrong but the whole "She just trying to find a place to have her babies and protect them , and we are gonna kill her for it" kind a messed me up.

Funny thing is when Biloxi Blues came out, there were some people who said Broderick was miscast in the role even though he'd been playing that character in multiple plays for years!

*I don't care what the critics said about "Project X"as a child, I found the movie shocking, moving, inspiring, and profound. I don't know enough about "animal rights activism IN MOVIES" to say one-way-or-another if Project X was one of the first or considered a milestone, but for me, it was a definitive piece of art. I am very sorry to hear about his car accident and hope that in his later years he finds both any peace he requires and a role worthy of capping a sterling career.*

Strange I have never heard of that movie Glory. Looks like a great civil war movie that no one heard before. Still find it incredible that films like that are unknown and crappy funny films as Tootsie are still remembered as classic.

Couldn't disagree more. Broderick went from being an appealing and talented young actor into a stiff, wooden, boring middle-aged actor who lost all his talent, appeal, timing, and delivery. It started with Godzilla and carried over into many movies after that. His work in the motion picture adaptation of The Producers was especially awkward. I make no judgement on his stage work as I've never seen any of it.
