They waited way too long for the sequel and in the meantime Miller spent all his clout and burned all his bridges before they got around to it.
@guyvizard5492 күн бұрын
It's objectively a tad better looking than the first one, but even I remember the... apathy of people when the second one came out. I don't think "The Spirit" helped Miller's situation, either. A buddy of mine who was an extra on "Dame..." said he got to have lunch with Miller, and it was very much one of those "don't meet your heroes" moments. I won't repeat some of the things he said to my friend, but... needless to say, it makes some of his comics, stories, and character decisions MUCH worse in retrospect. (Sexism, racism.) He's also apparently ill. Like, don't be surprised if he's gone, soon.

I'm still angry that this and Grindhouse were made in Austin, during the little bit of time I was NOT living in Austin. I was a huge John Carpenter, Q.T., and Rodriguez fan, and an ex-classmate of mine even plays one of the waitresses, sitting next to QT in Death Proof. I would have happily been an extra in any of these. By the time the sequel was being advertised, I had never even heard of the filming yet. So I missed out on that one, too. Though, I do believe the ex-Troublemaker Studios is now available for young filmmakers to rent, and that's awesome.

I personally think this is the best comic book to movie adaptation of all time. It was virtually new art form. I would be very excited if Marvel or DC tried to make movies that actually looked like live-action comic books, but there's no way they'd be able to pull it off so beautifully. (Hulk 2003 sort of tried, but we all saw how that turned out. )

Only one scene was shot before the movie was filmed. Robert Rodriguez showed Miller technical clips of how he would represent the novel. Then Rodriguez told him he'll shoot a scene, The Customer is Always Right, as his proof of concept that showed to Frank Miller to agree to and come onboard, saying if he likes it, it will be the opening scene of the movie, if not he could keep it as a cool little short film.
