I remember being an extra during the football scene. And that heat wave was no joke. They brought us tons of water to drink. And my girlfriend at the time passed out from the heat. They kept us entertained by showing off the tumblers and doing Batman Trivia. Despite all that, I loved being there and watching how the sausage was made. It was absolutely wild seeing tumblers out the window and cars with Gotham license plates on the way to lunch. I happen to still love this movie. Sometimes, I go back & forth on whether this or Begins is better, but I think it did a lot of things right, including restoring Bruce as the emotional focus of the film. And that 1st Batman/Bane fight is still good! I don't know why I didn't think Nolan would actually re-create the back breaking from the comics, but when I saw it, I was in a half smile/half shocked look. And Anne Hathaway's Catwoman wasn't bad at all. She had more of the sensuality in her voice than Zoe Kravitz. I liked her suit being a mixture of the mid-00s comics & Julie Newmar. And I'm on board with this version of Bane. After what we got in Batman & Robin, this was definitely an upgrade.

I am 100% sure if Affleck's batman came out before this, it was gonna be a normal/good batman. I totally agree with Nolan. In my opinion this trilogy is not even a superhero trilogy. It's not about 'batman', it's merely about ideas. Batman is a symbol, as joker and bane are. Every character in these movies represent something, and to me it's more about what happens when different ideologies meet. To me, this is way more than just a superhero movie.

This is my favorite film of the trilogy and my favorite Batman film honestly. I love how it comes full circle with the trilogy to tie things together. Christian Bale has always been my favorite Bruce Wayne/Batman as he puts his all into the role in each film in the trilogy and here he truly cements being the absolute best Batman/Bruce Wayne for me. Getting all three sides of the character down to a T. Batman is where Bruce Wayne’s anger and pain goes when he is out as Batman, the Playboy Billionaire version of Bruce Wayne that the public sees as someone who’s good a business, yet is also selfish and a womanizer and the real Bruce Wayne that only few people like Alfred and Fox see throughout each installment of the trilogy. I never minded his voice and in the last two films of the trilogy, they added an effect to his voice as Nolan wanted Batman to sound darker than in Batman Begins, but Bale couldn’t do that naturally while not killing his voice, so they edited his voice in post. Gary Oldman is the best Commissioner Gordon as well, truly shines whenever he’s on screen as does Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth. Seeing Caine and Bale interact is always great, same with Morgan Freeman as Lucious Fox. These two characters really do their best to ensure Bruce stays as grounded as possible. Tom Hardy is excellent as Bane and while Heath Ledger’s Joker may be a better villain, Hardy defiantly holds his own against Bale’s Batman/Wayne and is truly menacing and intimidating. Anne Hathaway plays Selina Kyle/Catwoman to perfection as doing what she can to survive and also trying to get away out of the situation she’s in and in hopes for a better life. Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake is an excellent addition to this universe as a cop, promoted to detective doing what he can to help keep the city safe once all hell breaks loose. And Marion Cotillard does a very good job as Miranda Tate, a character who seems to be a love interest for Bruce, yet until the end of the film, you can’t help but think she’s hiding something from most of the principled characters. Cillian Murphy returns as Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow in a couple scenes and does a great job as the appointed judge in the Kangaroo Court. Christopher Nolan and company truly made sure that the trilogy ended with a way that was satisfying to wrap everything up and I remember 10 years ago seeing this film and wanting it to be good and have a good ending to the trilogy and I have to say this film did that for me then and still succeeds in being a satisfying ending. It’s a film that as time goes on, I notice more and more people seem to enjoy it more, maybe not to the point of thinking it’s the best of the trilogy like I do, but are able to see it for what it is. What people say are problems aren’t really problems as they’re often call backs to the other films in the trilogy, primarily Batman Begins. If everything was explained and the film was over 3 hours then people would complain about that. Because Nolan treats everyone who sees it as smart and having seen the previous films in the trilogy, we aren’t need to be shown every detail that would tell us how things tie back with the previous films, even when the trilogy wasn’t really planned from the beginning. I know Nolan did mention early on when writing Batman Begins with David Goyer about making a trilogy, but that was as far as it went for him. I know his wife Emma Thomas and Christian Bale have said things that sort of indicate that he had an idea of where he wanted Bruce Wayne to be if he got to make more than one Batman film and if they were lucky, they would get to make three Batman films and Nolan decided to make each film the best film he could at the time as if it was the only Batman film or the last Batman film he’d ever get to make and so he really made sure to not have much, if any sort of major cliffhanger at the end of the films, only open endings where there’s an ending to the film but no guarantee of a follow up, which really nails home the fact that Nolan never plans for sequels to his films. With the exception of this trilogy, all of the rest of Nolan’s films are stand alone films with no sequels. Even with two sequels to Batman Begins, Nolan makes sure to give his films an open ending to each of them where we want more, but are satisfied with what we have. I know people have said Heath Ledger was supposed to be in the third film and Heath Ledgers sister mentioned how Heath said he had hopes of returning for a sequel to The Dark Knight and while he and Nolan may have discussed what could happen with the Joker after the film, once he died he was never mentioned for a follow up ever again. And the earliest of Nolan saying or mentioning anything of a third film in any serious manor was back in December of 2008, around the time The Dark Knight was out on Blu-Ray and DVD, as it was revealed that he had completed a story outline for a third Batman film, which of course would never feature the Joker out of respect for Heath Ledger. I don’t really blame anyone for thinking Ledger was supposed to be in a third film as it seems to be a combination of hearsay with no actual definitive quote from Nolan saying this being the case and Heath Ledgers sister mentioning how he wanted to do another Batman film as the Joker, but whatever he and Nolan discussed about any potential future for the character beyond The Dark Knight never happened for obvious reasons and when he revealed he had a outline for a third Batman film, that was almost a full year after Ledger’s passing, so the Joker defiantly would never be in the cards for a third film that Nolan would make at that point. Honestly, all three films also look and feel timeless, which I think helps the re-watchability as sometimes films like this can look and feel like the time it was made and released and that doesn’t always help a film long term. I also think the story in the trilogy gets better with each film. That’s not going to be the consensus for everyone obviously, but I went in to this wanting the film to not only be good but to be a fitting end to the trilogy and it met those expectations I had and more. This film is great and I’m glad to see others talk about this film more positively over the years. Thank you for this video and apologies for the length of the comment. I really love this film and it’s nice to see more people talk about the good it has rather than what’s perceived to be bad, even if many of those things are just nitpicks at the end of the day and don’t really effect the film or trilogy as a whole.

I'm sorry I know a lot of people like this movie but it has so many issues. The fact that batman took so much time off and just let crime run rampant because a girl that wasn't his girlfriend died is silly. Also, the fact that in the middle of a dessert somewhere is a pit in the ground less escapable than alcatraz, somehow has capability of a television hookup with Gotham news channel on it. Then add to it that Bruce somehow gets out and makes his way back to Gotham in Winterfell to Kings Landing season 8 type speed. Not to mention the attempted M. Night twist at the end with the auto pilot being somehow fixed, the cops real name being Robin which is supposed to be a OMG moment when in reality means absolutely nothing because there was no Robin ever named John Blake.

@dazed1nyc Жыл бұрын
@Peter MJ I know what the movie is about I just think it's dumb. It's been maybe a decade, maybe a little more that he's been Batman in the movie timeline, already he needs a successor? Also, a guy named Robin Blake is gonna be Robin? So he's gonna use his real name? Shouldn't be too tough to figure out. And everything else I said. He's effing Batman for Pete's sake. I understand being a little down your friend died or whatever but the Batman we all grew up with would never just take years off and let crime run rampant in Gotham. He became batman to honor his parents and it takes the death of one girl to elminate all that? I just dont buy it. Some middle eastern pit in the ground prison has television capable of getting Gotham news? Bane's background in the comics is Hispanic although he learns a bunch of languages. You wanna change that to British? Fine, but you tell us that he grew up in a Middle Eastern prison. Where exactly did he develop a British accent? Talia decides shes gonna get back at Bruce by having sex with him multiple times? Ill take that revenge any day. These are just little plot holes that take away from it for me. I'm not shitting on anyone for liking the movie, some people just like seeing Batman on screen and thats fine. I don't blame anyone, they expected Heath Ledger to be there so they put a movie together and did the best they could, same thing with Wakanda Forever this year. It just didn't do it for me. If you like it good for you I wish I did. I don't hope to dislike anything.

@@dazed1nyc Dude the movie literally shows Blake “rise” in the Batcave hence the dark knight rises. Blake’s whole arc in the movie is that he learns that being a cop is not for him so he becomes the next Batman and Bruce makes a new Bat signal for him and left the Batcave for Blake to use. Batman wasn’t needed because the Harvey Dent act enforced crime hard. Like Gordon said in the Dark Knight “he is the hero Gotham deserves but not the one he needs right now”. In rises Batman was needed to face Bane. He didn’t quit just cause of Rachel he quit so Gotham can believe Harvey was a martyr and inspire people to fight against crime.

I was at the stadium scene. Oi! It was so hot lol but it was a fun day. Heinz Ward came out on a Tumbler and I yelled to him he was the champ, he said Go Steelers and I said no, I'm a Philly fan, "I meant you're the dancing champ, show us your moves." And he did, he started dancing on the Tumbler. I will never forget that. Heinz Ward dancing on a Tumbler on the set for a Batman movie on a hot summer day in Pittsburgh. 😄 Another memory of that day is Bill Cower giving a speech and then walking towards some landmines on the field. Everyone yelling for him to turn around. That was scary. But they also gave out a bunch of goodies that day, gave us lunch too if I recall correctly. The only thing that bums me out is you can't see our faces in the movie. Like we bragged about it too lol was still fun though. For a whole year I was quoting Bane. "Gotham, this is your reckoning." I also remember that kid singing the Natrional Anthem like 15 times... okay, maybe it wasn't that much but it felt like it lol

For a film that Nolan didn't have any heart in making, and despite some unexplained continuity issues along with the worst death in cinematic history (Marion Cotillard), I think it was a damned good movie. In my opinion, the only true Batman movies are the Nolan movies, and that's coming from someone who went into watching "Begins" with low expectations!

my favourite of the trilogy. biggest gripe was bane and talia anticlimactic deaths, especially when bane was such a formidable villain throughout the film

I love TDKR, but dang seeing Joker embrace the chaos of Gotham’s reckoning and its citizens eating each other similar to Scarecrow would have been cool and made the movie feel even more alive.

When ledger was announced...I knew he would absolutely kill that role. I was a fan from his Australian films like two hands. He is an amazing actor and it's a real shame he passed away in would have loved to see him continue his role as the joker. I live in Australia and he had such a great profile in the film and tv scene here. I am a producer here so I had seen a heap of his stuff,. Knew he was going to be amazing. He had huge talent, such a sad loss. I argued until my.face was blue that he was going to be an amazing joker with my mates here in Australia and they all said he's Gunna suck etc,. I gave them a big told ya so when we saw eachother after the film came out.

I never liked The Dark Knight Rises. I thought it was a pretty piss poor excuse for a finale to an otherwise good trilogy. There’s almost nothing redeeming about it for me. Heck, even The Dark Knight falls apart a little if you look past Heath Ledger’s incredible performance. Batman Begins is by far the best movie in the trilogy.

@@phillyvoodoo Classic bs excuse the kids have come up with to try and take away from TDK. Bale was exceptional in TDK and carried the film on his shoulders at the end of the day. The Joker was outstanding in the movie but was only in it for 10-15 minutes tops. Batman and the impact his presence had in Gotham was the focus of the film. Stop making shit up.

@R S I'm 45 and I was reading comics since the 80s and was a geek and a nerd way before is was cool... I actually got beat up for nerdom..... Now if you read my comment previous you would note that I said that The Dark Knight was the best of the series...... it my be the best film with Batman ever, however it wasn't really a Batman movie..... I also don't take anything from Bale's portrale of the character because he didn't write it.... But that characterization just isn't Batman.... Batman has one true super power, he doesn't give up..... Nolan spends the entire series having Bruce find ways out of being Batman and that is just contrary to the core of his essence.... Now all film is subjective and this is my informed opinion..... In closing I am not making excuses Only stating the characterization options of nearly every writer that has written the for him..... with a few noted exceptions

This Movie certainly had a profound effect on Popular culture with one of the key sequences being Bane breaking Batman's Back. Tom Hardy had huge shoes to fill, following Heath Ledger but he did an admirable job despite some audio issues with his voice. Overall a pretty solid end to a beloved trilogy that slowly got a longer run time with each entry.

Bane breaking Batman's back was taken directly from the Knightfall comics of the 90's and used as an easter egg for the fans by Nolan. Look into it.

Christopher Nolan always does a spectacular job with his films. I feel that he should’ve picked up where he left off with this film, as it showed the introduction of Robin. The way the movie ended left its viewers in expectation of a quadrilogy. These three Batman movies made much more sense than the ones with Ben Affleck or Robert Pattinson. Hans Zimmer did an outstanding job with the score for all three movies.
@cheezeofages Жыл бұрын
In my opinion it was set back by trying to live up to The Dark Knight and Heath Ledger's masterful performance. But you just can't force the kind of performance were it's the actor vanishes and it's character there and the audience just becomes completely entranced and just absorbs the scene with their full attention.
