WTF is Apple’s Private Click Measurement?

Apple’s App Tracking Transparency feature has shaken up digital advertising’s cross-site targeting infrastructure, and its Private Click Measurement has threatened to do the same on the measurement front. Originally introduced in 2019, Private Click Measurement offers up an alternative to cookie-based measurement and attribution that doesn’t enable cross-site tracking and harkens back to coupon-era measurement and attribution, as Digiday senior media editor Tim Peterson explains in this video.

I'm really wondering why your videos aren't more popular, the production value is top-notch, you get straight to the point and you explain it in an extremely concise and easy to understand manner. This sounds like it sort of removes everything that makes tracking useful to advertisers, so I'm not exactly sure why they would choose to use it. What data do they gain over not getting any data at all? How many people clicked the ad? If they can't even track if the purchase was made from someone clicking on the ad or not, what useful data do they even have to gain?
