► WTF Is... - ORION: Dino Horde ?

What bugs me about dinosaurs in video games nowadays is that there is an overabundance of games where dinosaurs are enemies and you have to shoot or kill them in order to progress. I mean, you've got Turok, Dino Crisis, Tomb Raider, Jurassic: The Hunted, and now Orion Dino Beatdown. Personally, I'd rather play a game where you can play as a dinosaur or dinosaur-like character though the only ones that I can think of that allow you to do that are Jurassic Park for the Sega Genesis, Primal Rage, and sorta Dino D-Day (you could probably also count Killer Instinct since one of the characters is a lizard but I digress).

Don't listen to everything he says - the games been updated since then. The game has been optimised a lot since then, and yes it may not have Battlefield 4 graphics, and it may not be the most original game but it does have the best co-op i've played in years! Even if you dont have friends to play with the community is very friendly. Just get this game for the $1.

Its important to be able to make the distinction about which games you would enjoy and which just aren't worth the time. That's what reviews are for. Andy Chen You allready downloaded it, that means you allready put the effort into looking at it, you wanted to try it out, its not like you had a decission of spending 50 dollars on the game..you allready had it for free and still you rather let someone else decide what you play, isntead of makind your OWN decission after spending 10 minutes, but rather in the game than the video. Maybe biscuit play a game differently than you, enjoys games that you do not, I for example read great reviews about the LotR MMo game..I tried it out and I found that it was utter shit, even despite having high critic reviews, I personally simply do not enjoy any kind of "game plays itself" with autoattacking and shit like that.

You have a point, but I find that I have a similar taste as TB. I've played many games and then watched TB's impressions of the game AFTER playing it and found that he generally has similar opinions of games that I do, so I've come to trust his judgement. Its not as simple as "fanboying" its having trust in someone who has similar gaming tastes as you. I understand you're point of view but passing judgement on other people before you see where they are coming from is exactly the same as passing judgement on a game before playing it. So I guess we're both at fault.

Andy Chen I think there is still a difference, once again, your "situation" is quite special here, you allready had the game, all you had to do is try it out. Now do I myself have some reviewer I trust with his opinion, hell yeah, if he tells me to try a game out I usually do, unless it won't fall into my cup of genres I prefer, however this is normally with games that are an investment of 50-60€ there is a difference of trying something out for nothing and buying something.

It actually wasn't in multiplayer beta when this video was made. That was leftover menu art that the devs forgot to change in the update. It was only up there for like 5 days, after that the devs changed it to what it should have been.

I bought this game a few days ago in a sale on steam and actually quite liked it. They fixed most of the bugs, for example the not showing where objectives are or the dancing dino corpses. They also put in some new stuff and show how much you hit on enemies. How the game is now it's pretty much worth buying if you get it in a sale of at least 50% off.

Well I got 4 copies of this game on steam for 3 which means I can give it out to friends on steam so now I have 4 people to play with also the game has been updated a LOT since he reviewed it, the HUD and GUI has improved a lot the AIR has IMMENSLY improved and overall the game has been refined, definitely worth checking out 7/10

I love how I've heard this comment exact same comment a thousand times on here. Normally I could care less about graphics and animations, just as long as they have a soothing or satisfying color scheme/design (minecraft or World of Warcraft for example) I don't mind it. However, this game is just offensive to the eyes, I'm sorry. I'm not buying your story that it's a good game. Go play Skyrim or Half Life 2, again if you have already, and then come back and tell me that Orion: Dino Horde is a good game. It actually runs on the Unreal 3 Engine, according to ModDB. And really, if it were running on the Halo 1 engine, it would have to be a very heavily modified Halo 1 engine, considering the lighting and shadowing on display.

I came here because the game is on sale, and I wanted to see if it was any good. I was pleased to see that TotalBiscuit had a WTF video up, because he always goes into great depth (menus included) in his videos. I've been a fan of his videos for a while, however, this was not a review. This was him going into a game with a predisposition, and then bashing the game for 28 minutes without even considering the quality of it. BTW, I'm not defending the game, as I haven't played it. I'll just buy it for $1 and find out if it's any good, without taking this "review" into consideration. I'm sure I'll continue to watch his videos, as he is a really good reviewer, but this time, he didn't even give the game a chance.

TB said his computer couldn't even handle it at the highest, it's horribly optimized. And the actual gameplay is pretty shitty as well, some of my highlights were getting stuck in some rocks in a car with my friend (wouldn't let us exit so we had to suicide), Waiting 10 minutes for a pteranodon to try and attack us because we couldn't hit it in the air, and having the dinosaur AI not target downed players, so the second you go into "Fight for your life" mode, every dinosaur near you runs away for the next person, so you can't get a second wind. Wall of text end.

TB's mention of the game not being well optimized was indeed true; it definitely isn't anymore. With a 680M and i7 3610QM, I can run most maps at a mostly steady 60 FPS on ultra. It's more like 50-70, but that's the gist of it; the optimization is not nearly as bad as it was before. The game has also received a lot of free updates/DLC, which helps. There's also been better balancing tweaks. IIRC it's still free to try out and 1 USD to buy, so check it out. Maybe you'll hate it; maybe you'll like it. I personally think it's a lot of good, dumb fun, and frankly I haven't ran into very many glitches, and most that I have have been a product of a player's dumbassery (such as driving up/off a mountain; gj dumbass), but I will happily also state that the game has not morphed into something amazing. But, it is a game, and it functions as you would expect a game to function and I personally get more enjoyment out of playing than stress (unlike Primal Carnage holy shit).

sky0dragon I bought 8 copies cuz its superb. I have had a solid 8 hours of fun for less than a buck. It feels like a mix between Killing Floor and Halo on the survival mode. I love Killing Floor but this game is probably more entertaining when comparing both games in their current state. I recommend anybody who likes Killing Floor to get Dino Horde for sure. I can acknowledge that TotalBiscuit is intelligent, but he just doesn't get it with this game. Many of his arguments against the game were uneducated in this instance. Killing Floor has many of the same shortcomings, and still delivers an experience that cant be matched by many other games. He simply read into it too much in this video. I was too busy enjoying myself to notice the lack of an attack animation. I was more involved in the overall experience of overcoming the overwhelming odds. Coming from Hell on Earth in Killing Floor, I can still admit that easy mode (lowest of 5) on Dino Horde will likely destroy newcomers, and gave me a fair challenge. I am currently reluctant to attempt hard mode after 8 hours. There is much to learn and overcome, and countless tedious tactics to develope, incorporate, and abide by without question in order to succeed. Some people like that sort of thing. I am one of those people.

I started out with this game with my only knowledge of it was a video of a couple of Swedish dudes muckin' about that I barely watched and forgot about. When I then started, it was because my friend asked me to download it, because it was on free-week, and I thought "what the hell" and went right into this game right away. It was buggy, and stupid but it sure as hell was so bad it was FUN. I guess this is just some "First time jolt" or something, but as a first timer I had quite a time. Also it's the big Pterodactyls who pick you up, the tiny orange ones try to smack you. Also, There was that one guy who said I was aimbotting, lol Superolivewhatever dude, you're hillarious.

10:00 You aren't killing mission dinos. They're the ones who attack the generator and are marked red on the minimap. Environmental dinos are marked as large orange dots. I must say, 1. This is a much older version of the game. 2. THIS REVIEW IS EXTREMELY INACCURATE AND YOU CLEARLY DON'T SEPARATE COLORS MENTALLY. Green generator means online, red means off, got it? There is no tutorial because Spiral assumes you know how an FPS works.

dinosaurs without the red arrow do not count as wave dinosaurs. they are just randomly spawned world dinosaurs that are not part of a wave. to be honest the game isnt too bad graphics aside, there has been alot of fixes now. my friend and fellow youtuber CplStrappi bought it for me so we can do videos on it. Its average, but it isnt bad

It's not clear on anything. The minimap has abysmal range and the red triangles only appear on the final five dinosaurs, which can get lost while trying to path find through a hallway. ADS is pointless between the tiny zoom it offers and the horrible bullet spread of even the basic pistol. Everything needs work, and maybe in another 8 updates, 6 quick fix patches, and 2 content updates it will be a decent game worth the price. Doubt it, but I'd like to see the money I spent be worth it.

I really felt TB put it right by calling it "Mod quality," because that is really what it feels like. It's a fun little game to play here and there. $15 is really not all that much, it's not like it's asking for you to buy this arcade like game for the same price as a full game. Also, how can you call him a fanboy? A fanboy would be if Orion was an ongoing series, made games in the past that he loved, and now that they made a game of less quality, he still loves it because of nostalgia.

This game is worth every cents. I just got it and have already put 10 hours into it. I bought it for 99 cents, but that was on a Steam sale. Like I said, get this game. The updates that have been released from when this video was posted changed it enormously. For all you hard asses out there this is NOT a triple AAA title. P.S. Primal Carnage, perhaps? Class-Based Multiplayer, humans vs dinosaurs, but done in such a way that people don't want to play exclusively as dinosaurs (because playing as a raptor or T-rex is incredible, but trying to gun down a T-rex charging at you is also incredible).

After a bunch of patches, this game is now actually ok. The fog has been fixed, the glitchey models, horrible animations, ect. have mostly been fixed, and now its actually kinda fun. Its worth buying on sale for around $5, its still not very good.

The dino count wasn't going down because he was killing the random roaming dinos. It's CLEARLY marked on the minimap which dinos you have to kill to advance the wave, and which ones are just roaming. Dino Horde was not released with a multiplayer beta, that was leftover menu art that wasn't changed in the update. In fact, they removed that less than a week after this video was uploaded. Granted TB had every right to think it was, considering the menu said it was. But it wasn't.
