You know, even back in the day this game was always a definition of "decent" to me, the precise line between a good game and a bad game. The gameplay is average, the story is average, mechanics and ideas are average, but I still enjoyed it, maybe because of the novelty of playing a Megaman RPG, maybe because english isn't my first language, while I could read it perfectly at the time, I didn't knew the nuances of a "bad" english dub (nowadays I obviously can perceive it). Sometimes the problem is not the team working behind it, but the time constraints and budget, since the PS2/GC era Megaman is a pretty "secondary franchise" to Capcom, it became more focused on the handhelds instead of home consoles, I think the franchise did better in this area (Zero series, ZX, Battle Network, etc) since lower budget could do more in older handhelds.

This game is a gem. I really with this had gotten a sequel or something, because they had some cool concepts and characters in it. I like the X 'world', and seeing a 'war' from a different point of gameview was a nice change of pace. I mean, don't get me wrong, but if I had gotten to see Storm Eagle's stage or Storm Owl's in full 3d and the environment and enemies reflect them I would lose it. X4 has some really amazing and dramatic scenes, but I feel the points aren't really driven home when they happen. When the intro level, the skyscraper or whatever, gets destroyed and you're running through the wreckage that's supposed to be really hard hitting, but it doesn't stick with a lot because it's just another level you have to run through. I would absolutely love a dark Command Mission game where you see the strain on Reploids and humans and how sometimes the Mavericks aren't really labeled correctly, just like in Command Mission. Anyway, fanboy rant over. Nice review for the most part, found it funny.

His best showcase was by Mark Gatha in MHX and X8. One was the original, fledgling X who was just getting adjusted to the costs of war. The other was a sympathetic yet determined leader who, even though he hates war, will always put his life on the line when innocents are in danger.

While I don't agree with everything you said about this game, I won't lie you do make alot of good points. To me, Command Mission is a game that was great in concept, but executed very poorly. I mean, I like the idea of X teaming up with new characters and fighting a new boss that isn't Sigma for once. That and I love all the different weapons and armors this game gives you too. Still, did they have to make it such a repetitive and mind numbing RPG? Should have done something like Megaman Zero when it came to its RPG elements. Have it so you get stronger the more you use a certain weapon or grinding for resources to buy upgrades.

When I decided to play BOFIV because I kept hearing that it was amazing, I was stunned at how much of a downgrade CM is. I used to really enjoy Command Mission and still think it's okay, but after playing Breath of Fire IV, I can't ever go back to it. Still has a great OST though.

Fun thing happened to me back then with this game. I was like 12 or so and playing it. For some reason, I started reading names backwards. So Zero is Orez, and so on and then it hit me with Redips haha. Overall the game is a fun decent RPG and even though it's not good from a critics point of view, I liked it a lot and enjoy it to this day. You didn’t give it a fair shake imo. I think it’s actually a perfectly pleasant game. While its overall story synopsis has holes and some shoehorned forced emotions, those aren’t the only things that matter. Lots of character interaction, including optional dialogue between chapters which really brings the characters to life. Returning to the base between each chapter was a really enjoyable flowchart, if simple; and that in conjunction with the updated dialogue of ALL base characters (both NPCs and your party) made the game feel alive. Battle was actually good; I love the FFX-style CTB system. Sub-weapons were fun and random encounters made a lot of sense! See, in each chapter, there were only a handful of enemy set-ups for each encounter, and unlike in many games with mana points and such, your sub-energy starts the same every battle. So you could find efficient sub-weapon combinations and attack patterns to get through each chapter’s encounters efficiently - very systematic and clear-cut. Visuals, ATMOSPHERE, character designs, MUSIC!!! - all those things were great in this game! And the voicing was a lot of fun, cmon and admit it. Even if Zero’s a surfer dude, I love it and think it’s the best Zero voice of all-time; and even if Spider’s an edgelord, at least admit that he’s a great one. The game moves pretty quickly and doesn’t overstay its welcome. It’s a completely worthwhile romp and I consider it a sort of hidden gem. If you’re gonna put a lot of weight in its being too easy, then Super Mario 64 and Paper Mario and many other great games aren’t actually that great; and if you’re gonna put a lot of weight in the story synopsis itself without caring about the enjoyability of how it’s told, then I think you’ll similarly accidentally take a lot of other great games down with this one. I like this review and your video style! But I think you just didn’t look at this game’s strengths at all. But I guess that’s just telling of the fact that its strengths weren’t enough to outweigh the cons for you, or that its strengths aren’t the types of things that matter most to you in games (at least in RPGs). But that’s just a difference of opinion! Great game imo, and a great video too! Subbed :)

The guy who has stopped Sigma 7 times at this point. He could take each of those out in a few buster shots, maybe 3 charge shots max. The plot can only get better from here

Feels like they did that for Most of the MMX games! Hardly any development AT ALL! I think the only time we got any really Development was in MMX4, little bits of 5, 6 & 8! The Zero Series are some of the best games with a much better set of stories compared to the X series and it really makes me wish that the PSP Megaman X game were able to go Full Tilt into the remake territory! I felt was where the story was going to get better for all the Megaman X games. But it just didn’t happen. :(

One of the few RPG's I've played through. I mastered the game yet felt a part of me die. Also don't know if it was a oversight or what, but you can find a "Z-Rapier" early on, it's low rated, but it's actual damage is OP. still doesn't help you can't use him for 2/3 of the game.

This was firmly in kbash's "overly negative comedy" era that he's largely gone back on. Command Mission is a straight up hidden gem, I'd recommend the PS2 version though, the encounter rate is more forgiving for those not used to JRPGS

This was my second megaman game after X4 and I loved it thoroughly. Zero has always been my favorite and hearing him with a cool voice that fit his design was such a great feeling as a kid. Spider very quickly became my favorite character in megaman and I was devastated. This game may not be good by typical standards but I believe that as adults we forget about what made us enjoy games as kids

I loved the game back when I played it, but it would be dishonest to say I'd like it the same if I played it today, I remember I liked the gameplay and the story was ok for entertainment value, then again I never go too in depth in stories since I play through games quickly and at some point I stop paying much attention to it. Anyways, this game had enough of the cool megaman factors that made me like it, I will never forget the hype of seeing black Zero or that bat looking Zero thing, as well as fighting nine tails, also I can say that the OST is a thing that I appreciate until this day, Irregular Fight, Standby Zero and other ambient tracks I still listen to them to this day.

Game had so many cool concepts for the X series but the poor execution was clear in the first half. The world building and extra characters aside from the main trio we love was a great idea and some of them were really damn cool, but whoever wrote them in did NOT make them clever or anything. The OST is a BOP though which is why I always come back around to listening to it (like all X games). One day though, aside from the Zero games, we can get Mega Man games that take the story 100% seriously and make something wild for the series overall (personally think X5 & X8 have come the closest but even they have flaws). Anyway, good review!

I think Command Mission is a great idea even if it wasn't executed perfectly. Like Mario, Mega Man works well in other genres but there seems to always be something wrong with them nailing it. I wish I could play Mega Man X with an updated Mega Man Legends gameplay style. Imagine Mega Man X 1 as an open world like Zelda 64. Imagine the world map of X1 with the city in ruin and you travel through it all on the bike to get to new places? The open world would have secrets like Hyrule field and each dungeon would be each boss area of the game.

I legit would love to see them have another go at a Megaman RPG. There were plenty of great ideas here, just not executed well. One of the things I liked was stuff you could do at the bases, like finding lost reploids/robots that you could then send out to go do stuff like Megaman was Fultoning them. That's kinda neat, why not have a mechanic in a Megaman game not unlike Castlevania where you have a random chance to recruit or just get the powers of some of the jobber enemies. That'd be neat. And if recruit, come up with something cool for them to do.

Currently replaying it years later for nostalgia factor. I kinda dig the battle system tbh. The push and pull with weapon energy being used for both your sub weapons and action trigger is neat enough. Use energy now for bonus effects or let it charge up for bigger burst damage later. But yeah, the story is astoundingly corny. As a kid I did miss Spider’s obvious name trick because I was dumb though. Some characters are hilarious pointless. Here’s some facts about the least important character in the game, Marino: she has no voiced dialogue after her introduction chapter. After said chapter, she only appears in one more cutscene in the entire game but inexplicably disappears during a scene transition. She does not have a blinking animation.

I can't say whether I agree or disagree with your opinion since I haven't played the game for myself, but it bothered me that at 1:09 you complained that they decided to make a Megaman X spinoff an RPG. It's a spinoff, it doesn't have to be the same genre. I haven't heard anyone complaining that Mario Kart isn't a platformer or that Metal Gear Rising isn't a Stealth Game, so why should it matter if X Command Mission is an RPG? I think you can love and hate just about anything. I don't earnestly have super strong feelings about the game - I played it twice in my life, and contrary to a lot of comments, I've beaten the secret bosses, but literally why bother memeing about them in a long-ass video anyway? In fairness to the Bad Box Art Megaman, it was just the Tekken team's way of celebrating what was supposed to be a year full of Megaman releases. If it came out along with Legends 3 and Universe, it would've just been a funny nod to the silly covers that we could laugh along with. A shame it only ended up releasing after all the other projects were cancelled.
