He didn't even talk about the Books. THE BOOKS. The civil war he mentioned "Horus Heresy" alone has over 50 books which only include events leading up the siege of Terra (=Earth). And only recently the "Siege of Terra" series has begun to come out. Some of the best I have read period (and I read a lot). The VERY best is about "Gaunt's Ghosts" an Imperial Army unit from Tanith with a very special commander (Ibram Gaunt) which is written by Dan Abnett and is hands down the best I have ever read (and I have read the first 13 books of the series 3 times now). Unfortunately the writer will never get any big prizes just because of the genre he is writing in. In my mind he deserves any and every prize writers can win. Good luck to you. The Emperor protects.

Baldermort, Luetin, and Oculus Imperia are my top favorite lore channels that I would recommend. Luetin is definitely the loremaster extraordinaire. His videos tend to run longer because he goes into such depth and detail. Baldermort’s lore is a little more on the basic side, which even he admits, but his zeal for the 40k universe really shines through his voice, which fits perfectly with the dark reality of the setting. Baldermort’s videos typically feature a creative story based in 40k that he came up with and they’re pretty damn good. Oculus Imperia is another loremaster as well, but he presents his videos as if he were a historian in-universe. All 3 of them have fantastic voices.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames A little late to answer here but the particularity of Oculus is the presentation of the lore from the perspective of an in universe character, the Chronicler or Historitor. Very eloquent and rhetorically exquisite. He also made a vid where his character is interrogated by an inquisitor for digging into some fishy and restricted archives.^^ I'd recommend _The Complete History Of The Unification Wars_ , being the story of the Emperor uniting Terra under his banner. Baldermort writes his own stories that he reads, the topics being the lore the vid is about and did anyone mention his voice? ;D Furthermore, only recently have i learned about the Amber King who does 👌*extraordinary*👌 character deep dives and is pure listening gold. And finally Only War, also character analysis and deep lore vids but with top-of-the-shelve voice acting. Both are relatively new YT channels. Btw, happy new year to the both of you and all the best wishes from Germany.

One thing you should know, there is a theory that says that orks are 40k's main characters and many things that happen in 40k are because of them; for example: -Orks see Emperor's insignia everywhere, they understand that the Emperor is a warrior god, since orks believe that gods cannot die, the Emperor don't die. -Ultramarines (the 40k posterboys) wins so much for plot armor since orks think that blue is the color of luck and Ultramarines armor is entirely blue. Also, orks' dumbness is so powerful that: -once a warboss loved his favourite gun so much he travelled back through time, killed himself, and took his gun from his past self so he could have two of them HOWEVER since orks know nothing about time paradoxes he didn't disappeared for killing his past self and lived happily ever after with two guns. -once an imperial guard legion ended up surrounded by orks with no ammo left, a guard had an idea: he pointed his empty gun at the orks and started shouting "BANG BANG BANG"... and since the orks thought he was firing for real they actually started to die for gun wounds HOWEVER at one point a bunch of orks start running in square formation thowards the guards and they seemed to be immune to the bullets; once they were close enough the guards could hear the orks chanting "I'M A TANK! I'M A TANK!" -last little one: since orks believe that red is the color of speed, if you paint a ork vehicle model red, it has an inch bonus movement in each turn.

So glad you guys are getting into Warhammer 40K. It's a great community with an endless amount of lore behind it after 40 years of creative work. You'll love it for sure! As for Dante's inferno, there is a character called Dante. He's the Chapter Master of the Blood Angels Space Marine Chapter and the oldest living space marine at 1,400 years old. He's a golden warrior and revered by many. The only space marines that are older are interned in dreadnoughts, which are basically walking and heavily armed life-support sarcophagi for mortally wounded space marines. I think 40K is becoming more popular partly because they future actually does look pretty bleak at times currently. I also think many people find painting the models quite therapeutic in a world of smartphones, laptops and other screens. It's an escape from constant notifications, reminders, alerts etc.

Bit late, but I just wanted to say, that one of my favorite aspects of the Warhammer Universe's lore, and the Imperium especially, is the "mid-level" humanity. The places that are not necessarily in the main fetid mass of the Hive worlds or Terra (earth) proper. The feudal worlds, the regained colonies, far flung places with only their belief in the Emperor and his Angels and what feels like a few guys with lazguns to hold out against the horrors of the galaxy. There's sort of a poetic area where the madness of the Imperium proper fades and you see humanity in an almost innocent(?) state. Sometimes still brutal, sometimes still zealots, sometimes lost in history, but very very interesting in a story telling sense I think. (and where peoples interpretation has a nice area to roam)

The whole Orks willing stuff into being is very literal and very ridiculous, and is the origin of so many memes and funny tropes. The best example of this is that they paint their vehicles red because they think "Red onez go fasta!", and because all the orks believe it, red ones DO go faster. Louder gunz obviously have more punch, so orks will put 'loudeners' on their guns, which will somehow cause them to more damage. Machines are cobbled together from garbage and by all rights shouldn't work. But the orks believe that they work, so they work.

There's more to add here. For instance the Imperium as a faction can be divided to sub-factions on the tabletop and other games. When fighting as the Imperium you can lead: - The Astra Militarum, or the Imperial Guard (the most "human" of the human forces) which are also divided into planetary regiments with their own special rules - The Space Marines (the superhuman soldiers) which are also divided into Chapters with their own special rules - The Adepta Sororitas, or the Sisters of Battle (the strong arm of the Imperial church) - The Imperial Knights (massive mechs which can dish out devastation among the enemy) - The Adeptus Mechanicus (something Luetin didn't mention), the Machine-God cult of Mars, with their mechanized armies - The Tempestus Scions, Imperial Guard elite shock troops which can act like their own army - The Gray Knights, a secretive psyker/martial chapter of the Space Marines created to counter Chaos - The Adeptus Custodes, the personal guard of the Emperor and the biggest of all Space Marines The same goes with the other factions. The Eldar can be divided into Craftworlds or pirates, same with the Dark Eldar and their Cabals. Da Orkz have tribes, the Necrons come in dynasties, the Tyranids have their hivefleets, the Tau have casts, and so on. In Chaos you basically follow either The World Eaters (Khorne), The Thousand Suns (Tzeench), The Deathguard (Nurgle) or The Emperor's Children (Slaanesh) traitor marines, OR you go Chaos Undivided with Abaddon "Thirteenth time's the charm" the Despoiler, OR the Daemon armies of the Chaos gods. Basically, you play what you like the most. OH, and about the Tau being the good guys and diplomacy, it's all fine and dandy until you learn that your people suddenly can't have kids anymore. Also expect that during the next fight you will likely go fighting in the first row.

Orks are awesome - they make up for lack of many things with sheer enthusiastic optimism. Need to get on top of that fortress wall? Well let's strap rockets to the backs of a bunch of orks and launch them. Some of them might land where intended. The rest goes boom. To an Ork, that sounds like a good idea. And due to their insane reproduction rate they actually can afford all the failures.

About the orks - when a large battle once occured, the Space Marines from the Imperium of Men confiscated their primitive guns to see how a race so technologically infantile can stand toe to toe against the raging machine of men. Upon close inspection of a batch of rifles, pistols and similar firearms, the servitors ( halfmechanical engineers) realized that orks packed random bits and pieces - bolts, scraps, rocks and sticks into the loading chambers of their guns - something that physically should not be in a firearm. Due to their mindfield - these weapons would in turn shoot bullets that could rip through Marine armor.

I do enjoy seeing people getting into 40k, I am not a table top player or miniature collector however I am attracted to the art style, story telling and over arching lore that puts 40k in a league of it's own. Luetin is outstanding for his content and I highly highly recommend watching every single one of his lore videos in order. Let me put it into a metaphor... 40k is a jigsaw puzzle made up of different races which are in turn their own jigsaw puzzles. Inside of those races are even more puzzles which contain more puzzles and so on, you get the idea. You will eventually hit a point where you start to see the puzzles coming together which in story telling is a long forgotten art. You will be extremely surprised at how much the lore interweaves itself and also at how you may see the horror of certain races, however once you begin to delve into their lore the line of good and evil gets harder and harder to see which again is something all good stories should do. 40k lore is an ocean stretching to the horizon and so deep that there might not actually be a bottom. Good luck. I would also recommend... kzbin.info/www/bejne/oISoh3apbdRjfpo - The Last Church. Whilst not truly considered 'canon' within the lore it does showcase the Emperor of Man and his intent. I would watch this after watching the 3 or 4 chapters on Emperor of Man by Luetin. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oISoh3apbdRjfpo - Helsreach. A 2 hour stylized movie that brings the 40k universe to life.

I frequently say that, for anyone who reads books, the best primer to gaining an understanding of humanity's place in the 40k universe (which is key to understanding the rest of the setting) is reading Eisenhorn and/or Gaunt's Ghosts, both series by Dan Abnett. Eisenhorn follows the career of an Inquisitor, the investigative agents and 'secret police' of the Imperium, as he works to unmask and defeat threats to mankind in the shadows. Gaunt's Ghosts follows the formation and career of an Imperial Guard regiment, the primary military force of mankind, as they struggle to survive all-out war while slogging it out with mankind's enemies on the ground floor.

Yeah, the little thing that a lot of cultists miss and end up regretting later is that Slaneesh is the god of lust but ALSO the god of pain. Slaanesh is also extremely fickle and will mutate, abuse or destroy its servants ona whim, like all other chaos gods. The best and safest thing in warhammer really is to be a civilian Eldar in a remote craftworld (but then you risk being consummed by slaanesh at some point) or be a common farmer in a central Empire planet that isn't ruled by some hedonistic psycopath governor. Or a nice mekboy Ork of a decent size and smart enough to not get his head smashed in by saying the wrong thing or being in the wrong place.

"I like the Orks now, because they have such a positive outlook." Oh, you sweet summer child. The only thing the Orks want to do is fight. And because of their biology(they are essentially sentient, if not too bright, humanoid fungus), they don't have to much that gets in the way of that. They reproduce by literally bleeding into fertile ground. So they fight to reproduce. They need little in the way of food or water that they don't just absorb from the environment. They are so tough and durable, there are cases where a frozen ork corpse was retrieved from space vacuum exposure and when it thawed out, it woke up and went looking for a fight. The Orks live to fight and fight to live. There is nothing in an ork's life but the next fight and the one after that, and if they are really clever, the one after that. If you are strong enough to put up a decent fight, they'll fight with you, if you aren't, they'll just kill you and move on. An Ork WAAAGH! can and has wiped out whole planetary and system populations. They are a genetically engineered doomsday weapon from a war between powers so great that all the other races in the modern era descend from their biological weapons. It isn't that they have a positive outlook, it's simply that fighting makes them happy, which when combined with a lack of high-level reasoning makes them fairly jovial. But make no mistake, happy jokesters they might be at times, the Orks are walking death that you can never be rid of.

But in a grimdark world the simple ridiculousness of Da Orks is great. Stories in comments about painting red to go faster and shouting I’m a tank is hilarious. So while they aren’t good guys, at least they provide some humor 😂🤗😈
@uzrdutiutfiztdf35453 жыл бұрын
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames the 'i am a tank' thingy is a fan fiction meme to be fair. but the painting red to go faster is actually a thing. also yellow makes bigger explosions and purple is the sneakiest color. that is one of the things the orks just willed into being true by collective belief. The most hilarious thing is, that the orks basically are potent psykers who can manifest their will through the warp into the real world but on the other hand are not intelligent enough to understand what they just did. for them it is normal fact that vehicles painted red run faster. They also build up huge warmachines against all rules of physics that do just work because they believe it. the orks just think they made them right and the 'responsible' tekboy (ork mechanic) is a genius. and if it doesnt work they just try again after hitting the tekboy a few times over the head with a blunt object to give him better ideas.
