Then, later on, you discover he's flipping cars, for a living, in a Target parking lot! 😮 This guy has probably alienated every shop in town, all friends & family, and now he's wasting the time of mobile guys looking for free repairs. This is why I always take note of every VIN and plate number of every vehicle that I work on. You never know when someone will come out, and accuse you of messing up their vehicle, when you may have not even touched it. Checking the VINs on a vehicle is also a good way to confirm whether what you're working on, is possibly stolen. If a VIN is missing or if there's any suspicion that a VIN has been tampered with, I would not even touch it.
@coloricanking5 ай бұрын
In Florida I'm required to collect all that info, and I use digital invoices built on spreadsheets so I'm able to search the workbook and verify someone was a passed client
@TheUnknownLegand5 ай бұрын
@@coloricanking Cool, I started my mobile mechanic business with ARI so that I atleast had a system to log vehicle information, and make invoices. But, I still take pictures of VINs, plates, and odometers, so I have physical proof. Not sure on legal requirements for Texas or other states, but collecting the information is the right thing to do. I see some mechanics not caring, and taking a risk.
@coloricanking5 ай бұрын
@@TheUnknownLegand Florida is interesting in that collecting vehicle and customer details is a legal requirement. You have to include a copy of your proposed invoice and it has to check all these boxes in order for your shop license to be approved. Im not a mechanic but hearing people in the trades mention that a customer saying "it's not a big deal it's something simple" usually means it's a big deal 😂 Different field but im a head cashier at Lowe's who was at customer service before that and the amount of hoops customers trying to jump through to convince you the product wasn't destroyed by their hands is laughable. You learn to read thru the BS quickly and I have everything from people returnin an 8ft piece of baseboard that's now 5ft trying to pass of their scraps for the full product and acting dumb saying "this was leftover from the contractor" trying to give themselves an out when called on the bs... Bottom line is most people are cheap and will lie through their teeth to get a freebie. The more in depth and elaborate someone's story is, the less I believe them.. i think dude was trying to get some free work outta you. Glad you cut that bs off bu telling him it wasn't you and you'd have to charge him. He likely thought it was a fleet owned by a larger company and was gonna use Joe Blows name to tie "Mobile mechanic on Google" to a larger operation. The good news is that your personal 1 man show was actually brought up as a suggestion in googles algorithm, im sure you do click per cost advertising but yah..
